- A seahorse would make a much better pet than an octopus. They can only live on land for a few minutes before they suffocate. Yes, seahorses are social, no, they can't bite and you'll need a saltwater aquarium, someone at the pet store can tell you what else you need. No, you can't really play with them either, I've tried.
- Sea horses live in sea water! They do not and cannot live on land You can't really 'play with them' as in handle them and expect them to respond in a playful manner. They are social with their own kind. You need to do a search and learn more about them.
- Do they like or tolerate people? Probably not. How long can they live on land for? Haha...this is a joke right??? Seahorses are MARINE fish from the depths of the ocean. Would you take a goldfish out of their tank? No, because it would kill them. What is their lifespan? Unknown, but estimated to be 1 year for dwarf species and up to 4 years for bigger ones. What do they eat? You will probably need to buy things like brine shrimp to feed them. Can I play with it? No. Idiot. Do they bite? Um...no. They have long tube-like mouths. Are they social? I believe they get along with other seahorses, yes. What do I need? Extremely large tank, probably 100 gallon plus. Stand, hood. Protein skimmer, filter, live rock, sea salt (from the pet shop, NOT the supermarket), test kits, sumps, and a sh** load of other stuff. A proper marine set up usually costs hundreds of dollars. Where do I get one? YOU DON'T!!! Seahorses are extremely delicate and endangered. Even experienced fish keepers have huge problems keeping them healthy. You didn't even know you can't take them out of the water. Leave them alone until you can at least keep guppies and clownfish alive, PLEASE!!!! ETA: Susan, you are such a rude cow. Politeness never cost anything! I am soooo sorry I don't have intimate knowledge of each and every marine fish, I have an aquarist friend who keeps his seahorses in a big tank, as parameters are hard to keep stable in a small tank. Oh and hence I said PROBABLY 100 gallons. Learn to read...it looks like I'm not the only "retard" here.
