Cross Breeds

If you could cross any collection of two or more breeds to make a new breed, what would they be?

I'm not talking about designer dogs. I mean if you had to create an entirely new breed for a specific purpose by selectively breeding breeds already in existence, what would it be? What current breeds would be involved? What traits would you require from them? What purpose would they serve? This is supposed to be both a fun and an informative question. Anything goes.

  1. A Havanese and Shih Tzu. I would choose the Havanese because they are an over-all great working dog. They are assistance dogs, therapy dogs, good at tracking, and also good at agility, flyball and obedience training. I choose the Shih Tzu because they are very loyal and are a wonderful companion dog, so I think working dog + companion dog would be a great mix for a dog.
  2. I think I would mix an American Pitt bull Terrier and a Labrador Retriever. I would be looking for a strong, agile dog, who can accompany me to camping, hiking, and swimming. Also a child-friendly dog, who can also be a loving companion. Both breeds are child-friendly, and the Lab gives the mix a water resistance coat. The result is a Labrador Pitt Bull Retriever. Or an American Retriever. xD
  3. I would breed a : o Japanese Akita - for its intellect, power, strength and ability to learn. o American Bulldog's scotts type - for its strong jaw, body weight and short fur o Dogo argentino - again his short furr, colour, courage and speed The purpose? From what I said, I suppose their purpose would be for protection/guarding. It might have an out come of an ugly dog lol, but those are my favourite dogs, which each having its own purpose and abilities.
  4. Hm...let's see then. I'd get a Coton de Tulear for the coat(the low shedding one) an personality. A Papillion for the wonderful coat appearance, plus a bit of energy. A Husky for those stunning eyes. A APBT for a slightly larger body and a thinner appearance(and of course, that personality!). And a Golden Retriever for some yellow in it. Seems fairly look orientated, sorry. :P
  5. Well I like a specific kind of mutt that is common around here, I've often thought that they should almost be a breed of their own. From what I can tell they are mostly mixes of shepherds, huskies and possibly labs. My mom has had several.. and the temperament is what I love about these dogs. She currently has her dogs fixed but before she did they had a litter on accident, well I gave her crap for it! but anyway the dogs turned out so awesome really, she kept two of the pups male and female, all her females are fixed. But my point is that the temperament of the father bred true, and his temperament came from his mother who was also my moms dog from before. All of these dogs, and there are a LOT of them around this area, have the same general appearance.. they are shepherd like with the same kind of markings although with more variation, some have erect ears and some have floppy ears. Most of them have the same type of stable, gentle temperament. Especially my moms dogs they are exceptionally well tempered. Their job is to protect their family and livestock and yard from wild animals.. These are the kind of dogs that stay with the kids in the yard at all times, and protect them against bears and such. We have a lot of wildlife around here and most everyone has this type of mutt dog who does the job of guardian, it's a small town area and many people live out on dirt roads in the woods. These dogs are trained to stay in the yard and aren't usually leashed or tied.. but it's their temperament that simply shines. My sister and I were watched over by these kind of dogs whenever we played outside and they always did their job very well and took it seriously. If there weren't such an overpopulation problem, if I had the money and the means and all I would most definitely take the kind of dog I described that is common here and develop it into a breed of it's own.
  6. Bulldog and a Shit-Zhu because they are both reliable dogs and you could call it a Bullshit
  7. I'd breed Gunnies - a gopher crossed with a bunny. Then they could dig their own dang carrots.
  8. A Chihuahua + A Havanese = A Hypo-Allergenic Asthma Hound!
  9. HMMM... This is SO silly, but I would cross a Bloodhound, English Pointer and a Labrador Retriever. Then the dog would go hunting and pick up the scent, point and retrieve. LOL. Not even sure if that's possible... Would be an awesome hunting dog though.
  10. toughy... I would cross a Border collie with a German shepherd. This is going to sound a little bit silly... With the mix I would ground out a few of the aggression issues associated with the German shepherd. Then I would make it a herding dog, of course, since both breeds are originally shepherds. It would have the overal coat texture, shape, and body of a german shepherd, but it would also come in all of the colors you can get border collies, because there are a lot and I think a merle German Shepherd Dog would look so cool if it was an acceptable color.
  11. i would pick a lab, great dane, and a dacshund because it would be like an ultimate working dog and with all the qualities with small dogs medium dog and gigantic sized dog and most of the breeds usefulness will go into that dog
  12. A working line Dobermann x working line Belgian Malinois. Only the dogs with proven strong working abilities, good bone structure & appearance {fine would be my mental blueprint for the breed} & rock solid temperament, would be part of the breeding program. It would be fantastic to have the energetic, focused fireball quality of a working line Malinois tempered with the off switch off the Dobermann! My passion is for working dogs, so it would have to be PPDs.
