How do you get race horses to go fast?
I'm wondering what the trick is to get them to win.

- It's all in the whipping technique. This video will explain it all: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPFhN9JwalE
- Its how they are bred. It has nothing to due with the way they are whipped. Throbreds are fast horses.
- Depends on the breed of the horse. If it has the bloodlines send it to a trainer!
- You learn how to ride. Horses don't win races themselves.
- gobo760... ur an idiot.... and that video was a load of cr.ap beating a horse isnt gunna make it win
- horses are athletes...just as you would train a jumper or eventer, a race horse has his/her own training regieme. Yes thoughobreds are fast horses, and yes it has a lot to do with the breed and bloodlines and who's on the horse...but if you have a good training program, balanced with speed, endurance and strength, your race horse will be fast. Look at Seabiscuit...good bloodlines, but not your typical race horse. He had heart and a great training program!
- Most thoroughbreds and racing quarter horses (which breed originated with Thoroughbred blood) are specifically bred for speed. Horses who like to run and are athletically inclined are the fastest ones. There are currently rules on the books and more in the offing restricting whip use by jockeys. It's been restricted in the UK for many years now, and finally is taking place here in the US. Horses who love to run will run, and the whip, if anything, is more of a distraction than an encouragement to run faster. Generally speaking, horses have to be cared for and conditioned properly to give them the advantage - to win races. That said, some horse win DESPITE being very poorly trained, and just make their lucky (albeit inept) trainers look good. The really gifted horses are going to win despite bad trainers and lousy jocks. I'll refrain from naming any individuals!
- THERE IS NO WHIPPING TEQNIQUE! sure they do whip but theres no specail way, and the horse has to have good bloodlines, ability to run smoothly and easily, the horse has to enjoy running, and the expierience of the jockey.
- talk to them kiss and lean down and pat their side and pace them at first then when its close to the finish line kick the speed up
- Thoroughbreds are bred for speed.
