Does anyone know of a reputable low cost surgical vet in the DFW area for a leg amputation on a cat?
My cat came to me 6 months ago and a neighbor dog got a hold of him (I assume) and my vet said his leg was probably broken but to fix it would be a couple thousand dollars and the same to amputate. I don't have the money to do that. She said sometimes a country vet will amputate for a few hundred. Just wondered if anyone in the Dallas-Fort Worth area knows of such a vet. Thank you.

- Sorry but I don't live around there so I don't know BUT I just wanted to say: Please do NOT let it just suffer with a broken leg since you don't have the money. That's just cruel. If you can't find someone with a lower price then maybe you could give her to someone who could? I know that's crazy and very hard to do but I just don't want the cat to suffer like that. Or perhaps you can raise money for it...that may take time though.
- I got my cat declawed and all sorts of stuff... I did it in Arlington, Texas though. Off I-20 and I believe it's past bowen, but here's the website. http://www.i20animaler.com/index.htm They were very knowledgable and even helped a bit with the price. I have no idea if they will help, but i always call them and they can probably even send you in a direction closer to you...etc. I hope your kitty feels better, I will keep him in my prayers.
- No way should an amputation cost the same as a reconstructive orthopedic surgery that involves plates, screws, etc. Yes, the orthopedic surgeries cost in the range of $500 up, but an amputation is in the range of $250-500 even in a metro area. It's a simple surgery that most vets (don't have to be a board certified surgeon for this one) can do as it requires no special hardware. Just went through this with a foster cat with a badly broken leg, but in his case the fates smiled on him and the leg calcified and healed without surgery or amputation. Call around and talk to other vets. There is a reason that many people opt for amputation rather than surgery - and that's cost! If it cost the same, everyone would have the leg operated not amputated.
