Why are cats abused more than other animals?

I was just looking through some pictures of cats...........and I see one on fire. I'm also a hunter.I go with my dog, who I love. Do you think hunting falls in the category of abuse?

1. Ugh. It's so disgusting. Makes me hate the human race. I don't know if they're abused more. Dogs seem to be abused quite a bit.

3. Oh my gosh! :( I don't know... but I'm not sure that's true. They kill other animals, like foxes, for their fur and stuff like that...

8. Turn on Animal Planet once in a while, and watch the Animal Cops shows. Judging by the problems they have every day, I'd say dogs are equally as abused, if not more. Especially with the circles of dog fighters. Horrible thing to do to those poor creatures.
9. Because they're cheap. Both dogs and cats are abused a lot, but one thing about cats is that they generally cost no money, so people don't value them, and will also dump them more than dogs. So they run around as strays making more cats. A lot of people see strays purely as a nuisance and don't respect the fact that they're living creatures. Oh, and those people are f*ing sadists.
10. no i dont...my boyfriend hunts...the only way i think its cruel is only hunting for sport...when my boyfriend kills a deer we eat it...it doesnt go to waste...it just depends on what your hunting...and what your hunting it for...we even eat squirrel...but i have a cat and i have never abused her...i adopted her from the animal shelter and she was born there
11. I just wrote you a very long answer to this question, and then I deleted it. I certainly don't want to be responsible for giving any abusing idiots on Y/A any ideas on how to abuse animals even more. All animals get abused, birds, mice, rats, dogs, reptiles, elephants, gorillas... Not only cats. I have 4 cats and I love them very much. It scares me everyday when I see and read about abused cats. But if you go to a couple of other sites with other animal species on it, you will see that all animals gets abused.
12. I don't know why people are saying cats suck when they are on a cat forum. If you hate cats so much, why don't you move to the dog forum or some other one! It saddens me when I hear about beautiful cats and other animals getting abused...after all, what did they ever do to you?
13. Maybe because they seem more vulnerable and more trusting. you really saw one on fire?! that made me cry! those people need to be set on fire to see how they like it!
14. I wouldn't say cats are abused MORE than dogs, however I can see why that might be the case. Cats tend to be smaller than a dog, and therefore less able to fight back vs. a human. So, you get a sadist that wants to hurt a living thing, you think they are going to go after a Rottweiler that could probably kill them? No, they are going to go after that kitten or a smaller dog (but, I think even a smaller dog still is tougher than a cat. After all, cats will tend to stand and fight another cat, yet they usually run from a dog, even one their size). I'm just glad that the ASPCA has been able to make animal abuse a felony in many states now.
