greyhound racing dogs.Im a complete newbie and need some advice please.Uk dog racing?
Hi ive purchased 2 racing dogs.im completely new to racing and have so far sent my dogs to a racing greyhound trainer in romford.Basicily i havnt seen my dogs race yet. There both 16 months old and born 9 days apart. One of my dogs had a trial at yarmouth racing track and failed by .3 of a second.his time was 24.83 and it needed to be 24.80 to quailify on that track.Ive heard thats a a7 track??? i dont understand what a1 ----> a10 stands for at the tracks.ive been told my dog would quailify for henlow no probs. My other dog passed his trail at the same track so would that make him a a7 dog?Basicily i need somebody who noes about greyhound racing in the uk to give me a few pointers.like explain what the diffrent grades mean.how i get my dog higher lower.Diffrent grades on diffrent tracks. Also for a 16 month old dog is 24.83 a okish time to run as ive heard they perform best around 2 and a half.I no race dogs can race at a min of 16 months but have heard most dont quailify untill 2 years or just under. Is this true?Any help or advice would be great and ill get best answer and as many stars as i can to who ever explains the best. Thanks

- You may find a better response from this Forum: http://boards.globalgreyhounds.com/index.php?act=home Hope they can help.
- Why don't you ask your trainer all these question? Go to the track and ask etc.etc. Just be aware that for every Grey that makes it on the track, there are any number who don't - I hope you are giving your two a forever home because Greyhound Rescue is full of those who didn't make it, looking for a good retirement home.
- Ugh... I cannot stand Horse Racing & Greyhound's Racing.... Just ask your Trainer. Geez.
- We race greyhounds here in Ireland. A good greyhound should easily qualify at any track on its first try. I don't know about the grading times in UK but here at our kennels, we have only ever had three dogs (in 10+ years) that have not done a qualifying time the first time out of the boxes. In fact, we would rehome (and YES, to the anti-racing people, we ALWAYS rehome...) any dog that could not go inside the grading time after two attempts. There is nothing that you can do to get your dog to go a grade higher - that is what you are paying a trainer for. Ask your trainer if your dogs are ever going to make the grade - ask him to be honest... If they aren't going to make the grade, it may be a good idea to cut your losses and find a sofa for them to retire to. Paying a trainer is not cheap and it costs just as much to train a mediocre dog as it does to train a good dog. - hi, Greyhound-data.com will help you! A1-A10 are the grades at a track.A1 being good and A10 being not so good. All the A1 dogs will be in the same catagory to make the race fairer and giving each dog a more or less equal chance. Im from Ireland so i wouldnt know too much about u.k tracks but it looks like your not too far from qualifying so try once more and if they dont qualify start looking for homes!!Your trainer will give you advice on this. I hope it all works out for you. Good luck
