How many horses would be needed to start a small part time horsemanship school? I want to teach people classical Sikh warfare including how to fight on horseback, but this is not really going to be a full time job. Although I realize keeping even a single horse does take a considerable amount of time. How many horses would I need to begin with?

- That is a neat idea and I would probably take a seminar or two...but I cannot ride a horse LOL. You should begin with one horse and as you build your business add more. Horses cost a lot of money to raise and take care of. My cousin has been breeding horses for 19 years now and he said for the cost of owning a horse five years you could put your child through college. You may want to consider how to support the horse part of this with an alternate income.
- What an excellent idea! First of all, you need to perform some market research within the area. It is necessary to ascertain how many potential students you would have to begin with, and arrange for a percentage of that fiigure. i.e, if five people tell you they're interested, it would probably be a shrewd decision to acquire a couple of horses to begin with. One for you (if you don't have one already) and one for the students. Make sure you're safe in your figures. You could own ten horses and have one student that comes once every couple of months. In that situation, you're going to be in big trouble. As nwohioguy says, horses are expensive to own and maintain. If you play it well, and with appropriate research and marketing, your idea has great potential. Good luck!
- Start off cautiously. Maybe one horse. Are there many Sikhs in your area. (If you're over here in Britain, Bad idea).
