If an UKC APBT and an AKC AmStaff had puppies, would the puppies be mix breeds?
I am confused on something. Let's say a single reg'd UKC APBT had puppies with a single reg'd AKC AmStaff, would the puppies be considered mix/cross breeds? Now, let's say you have two dogs dual reg'd with AKC as AmStaffs and UKC as American Pit Bull terriers, what exactly would the puppies be?

- Since they are two different breeds they would be a mix.
- They would be considered cross breeds because they are 2 different breeds. The standards are completely different for both registries.
- If you really get down to it all dogs are mutts.
- Because the AmStaff can be dual registered, then once that was done the pups could be UKC registered as APBTs. But you could not register them as AKC AmStaffs, unless the UKC dog could be AKC registered.
- 1 breed of dog+different breed of dog=mutt. You have mutts.
- The UKC registers AKC American Staffordshire Terriers as APBT. So you can have the dogs registered as APBT if you use the UKC. The AKC does not accept the APBT under that name, so it's basically two different organizations titles for the breed. The puppies are the same thing they were with or without "papers." They are American Pitbull Terriers, which the American Kennel Club has renamed American Staffordshire Terriers and redirected the breeding program.
- The fact of the matter is that the UKC dogs are essentially AmStaffs so it doesn't really matter in either case. With the single registered dogs you could make a stronger case of them being a mixed breed as opposed to the dual registered animals, but that's open to interpretation and opinion. This visual comparison shows how similar in type the UKC and AKC dogs are compared to the real APBT still found in the ADBA ring. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/showthread.php?t=23545
- They could be reg as APBTs. Its been done and most of the UKC "show pits" are in fact amstaff or mixed with amstaff. Since the breeds are the same conformation wise it really doesn't matter. The only thing different on the breeds is the name besides selective breeding for that "show dog look".
