What is the best way to introduce a new puppy into my home (with my current puppy)?

I asked something like this last night. I found out there is a different puppy that I might be adopting. She's going to bring the dog here to meet the family and my puppy. If it all works out, we can keep her. They are both puggles. How can we make this go as smooth as possible? When people come in (whether my dog knows them or not) she goes INSANE! She gets so happy she even pees a little! I was thinking...should I keep her going when she sees the puppy? Should I say "look look baby look how cute she is" and keep her energized....or should I not get her anymore excited? What should I do. How should I act? Obviously, calm and not hesitant, but is there too much excitement that might ruin the first meet? They are only a couple of months apart. One is 1 and the other is a few months younger. Maybe, 2 months.

  1. The dogs will work it out. If they are close in age, there would be less of an issue than if one of the dogs is older. I wouldn't worry about it. It sounds like your dog is very social.
  2. Keep them both on a leash--that way if there's any sign of aggression you can separate them quickly. If you know you're puppy is going to pee--you probably should arrange for the introduction to take place outside. You should always be calm--do not encourage excitable behavior--this is not good manners and puppies need to be taught not to do it. Speak in a low soothing voice and encourage the dogs to sniff each other. Separate them if they start growling or snarling at each other.
  3. i would hold your current dog on a leash then let the new dog in and see the reaction. if he is calm and relaxed let them play but with your supervision. if the dog gets mean. keep him on the leash and bring the other dog in every once in a while to get used to him I hope i helped XD !!!
  4. Hi! Resident dogs don't always relish sharing their territory and human family with some upstart new pup. To make sure peace and order prevails, take some care in introducing your new dog or puppy. Click the link below for more information. Hope this helps. Thank you!
