What kinds of jobs can i get with wild animals without becoming a vet?
I've always loved animals, and my dad wants me to go to Cornell University to become a Vet. But i don't really like small animals and i want to work with larger wild animals. I'm thinking of maybe working at a zoo, but i don't know if that will be what i want. I know i have to go to school for about 8 years to become a vet, but like i said i like big animals and i want to work with them. So if anyone knows if there is a job that would give me all of these i would appreciate it a lot!

- you could be a zoologist or a zoo keeper.
- im not sure, but i think you can become a biologist....
- A hunter
- The zoo is a good option. I really can't think of anything else though.. I think working with animals in Africa could be super cool! But I don't even know how you could get "started" in something like that, or if you'd even want to.lol

- Zoo keeper. Or an Environment specialist. ES get to study wild life, and collect samples. It's what I truly want to do.
- anything but the zoo... what a horrible thing to do to animals
- You could be a dog walker, or a groomer, or just a pet keeper, or you could invent your own business, and do w/e you like once it involves wild animals. Additonally, you could be one of those ppl on tv who hunt wild animals, or watch and observe them

- Zoo vet could be an option, but you would have to work on ALL the animals in the zoo. You keep stating you want to work with BIG animals which just seems silly to me, what are you going to let small animals in the zoo die because you have NO interest in working with them. Not really sure I am getting your point..sounds like you are not very committed, and I would not suggest going to school for 8 or more years if you are NOT SURE that is what you want to do. Also, you would be lucky to even get into vet school in the first place..it is highly competative and only the best of the best will make it. It is more competative to get into vet school than it is to get into medical school to be a human doctor. You must be passionate about what you want to do, and it just sounds like you are thinking about the glamour of working with wildlife, not the reality. You could simply be a zookeeper, or you can go for wildlife biologist. But doing either does not allow for much interaction. Zookeepers and biologists strive to have as little actual contact with animals as possible so they do not want them becoming acclimated to humans. You might be able to have more "hands-on" contact if you work as an ornithologist, herpetologists, etc.
