Why don't they have dog sled races in the Olympics?

I was wondering why not?

Public Comments

  1. because they have enough dangerous sports already.
  2. Don't know for sure but my guess would be because the Olympics are about people, not animals.
  3. It's been attempted, but PETA people caused trouble.
  4. It is a long process to get a sport approved by the IOC. Dog Sled Racing is primarily a regionalized sport. Pretty much limited to North America, not much world wide participation. But it is funny you ask, I was thinking the same thing just the other day. Perhaps that is because I adopted a Husky dog last November. And to the poster that says the Olympics are just about people and not animals obviously has never seen the equestrian events in the summer games.
  5. first off dog sledding is not a dangerous sport to who ever said that. And there was a demonstration of dog sledding at the 1932 Olympics. There was talk about having dog sledding in the 2010 olympics but it is the expense of the mushers having to transport all of those dogs for the Olympics. I wish they would have dog sledding in the Olympics that would be awesome!
