- I feed my GSD adult Blue Buffalo, Blue wilderness and he really loves it.
- Taste of the Wild is really good for active dogs It's an all life stages food, which means its good for both puppies and adults, which eliminates the problem of having to buy separate foods
- As more people understand the importance of nutrition to their own health, they're starting to consider what's in their dog's food bowl as well. Food manufacturers are only too happy to oblige, and the latest products are likely to be labeled natural or organic, and include ingredients said to promote health, such as blueberries and salmon oil. That said, it can still be a challenge to sort out high-quality chow from the canine equivalent of junk food. http://dogtime.com/food-nutrition.html
- Make sure is is Puppy Food for puppies and not adult food... pups need extra protein.
- Orijen no corn , no grain , no by-products pls stay the hell away form CRAPS ( purina , science diet , Iams , pedigee , royal canin etc )
- The best food is raw! :) If you are opposed to feeding raw for whatever reason, check out www.dogfoodanalysis.com and aim for a 5 or 6 star food. Personally, I would recommend Orijen, Wellness, Solid Gold, and Innova Evo. Also, don't feed your GSD puppy puppy food! It causes them to grow too fast, and can lead to their joints developing abnormally. Get a good life stages food, or if you choose a food with higher protein levels, mix it with a lower protein kibble. Good luck!
- I feed my German Shepherd Eukanuba. It's expensive but it's worth it. My dog loves it and you can tell he likes it more than Iams.
- The proper food for dogs has had the brand removed at the abattoirs. See, dogs are canids. Canids are carnivores. Their digestive systems (acid strength, enzymes, gut-length) evolved to perfectly suit raw animal proteins (birds, eggs, fish except those needles, insects, mammals, reptiles), whether carrion or fresh killed. In addition, they are mammals. During their early months mammals require rich milk (cows have been bred to produce lots of milk, but it is nowadays very watery). • Add http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/The_GSD_Source to your browser's Bookmarks or Favorites so that you can easily look up such as feeding, vaccinations, clubs, weights, teething, neutering, disorders. For pups, look in its Links -> Feeding section for the Diet_Sheet. For older pooches look in the sections on various ways of feeding a dog - especially the section on bloat. If you work out which calendar years are the 35 in which bloat went from almost-unheard-of to scaringly-common, I'll bet you'll find that they closely match the years in which kibbles went from virtually-unknown to virtually-universal. • To ask about GSDs, join some of the 400+ YahooGroups dedicated to various aspects of living with them. Each group's Home page tells you which aspects they like to discuss, and how active they are. Unlike YA, they are set up so that you can have an ongoing discussion with follow-up questions for clarification. Most allow you to include photos.
