Does anyone know how much german shepherd puppies cost in pounds or shelters?

I want to get a german shepherd puppy, but i need to save up for one. I want to get one from a pound or animal shelter because i am saving a life and it is cheaper. Please help.

  1. It will cost whatever their adoption fee is - usually around $150. But be prepared for all the costs associated with a dog. They are pretty pricey to maintain. Also don't forget about its vaccinations costs (depending on the age).
  2. Price will depend on the shelter and your area In australia puppies are normal around $290, adults 170 and seniors $60 Remember your more likely to find a German Shepherd mix puppy rather then a purebred, however 1 out fo 4 adults would be purebred
  3. Depends on the shelter some shelters only cost about $30 but some can cost $250. Good luck
  4. My local shelter charges $90.00 for any sort of dog. This price includes a spay or neuter. All of the shots, a microchip, a checkup at a vet of my choice, the city dog license, a leash and collar, and a bag of dog food. Good luck with your new dog.
  5. It depends on the shelter. They will usually cost the same as other puppies. I have seen some shelters that will charge a bit more for purebreds though. I would guess between $125-$350 but at most shelters that includes a spay/neuter and first shots. You could also contact a German Shepherd Rescue or look on petfinder. Good luck, great breed!
  6. we've adopted 2 dogs from 2 different local places.. our first was $35 though that shelter's prices are usually $75, and our second was $85. both of them included up to date shots, a microchip and were spayed/neutered.
  7. I agree with the people that have said adopting one from a pound is likely to be less expensive. But, just as a run down, here is what my dog has cost me in the 3 months since I got her. She's from a reputable, responsible breeder. $800--puppy itself. $90--crate, blankets, toys, bowls, leashes, food. $15--food to replace food puppy didn't like. $30--replacement leashes/collars. $20--more food/treats/toys. $40--initial vet visit. $35--rabies shot. $35--heartworm preventative. $6--dewormer. $40--emergency vet trip for swollen face. $12--medicine for swollen face. $60ish--cleaning supplies. $245--spay/baby teeth pulled/microchip. So far that's it, but as you can see, it adds up. It's good that you are going to save up, but whatever you think you'll need, I'd save at least double that. I am always amazed by what my dog needs, but owning her is very rewarding. Good luck getting your dog =)
  8. The pricing for dogs in shelters are all the same no matter the breed. Call your local shelters and ask them. Also you can look up german shepherd rescues in your area that only deal with pure bred shepherds. That's great that you are going to adopt instead of getting one from a breeder more people need to be like you! I foster dogs out of my home and they are always the most loving dogs you could ask for.
  9. It really depends on the shelter, as everyone else says. If you go to a County animal control its usually cheaper but they come without shots, spay/neuter, or vet checks. I know shelters that charge as little as $25. If the shelter includes the spay/neuter it will be closer to $100. If you go with a breed rescue you will pay more (expect well over $100) but the good thing is that they will keep the puppies up to date on their shots and spay/neuter and if the puppies are in foster homes, they usually come with a little bit of preliminary training and socializing. In the long run, it may actually be cheaper. No matter where you get your puppy, be monetarily prepared because the initial getting the puppy is the cheap part. I got my dog for free but by the time I took him in for 3 sets of shots, deworm, spay/neuter, microchip, buy a crate, toys, food, and tags I spent about $500. Of course, its all worth it to have a healthy, happy baby :) Also I had the most luck looking on petfinder.com for a puppy because you can do specific breed searches in your local shelters and rescues! Good luck!
  10. it depends on the shelter/rescue if you want a purebred your going to have to go through a rescue i'm getting my through a local rescue and its going to be 300 but that includes shots, neutering, my background check, and training
  11. It will depend on the shelter or rescue because prices can vary. Some shelters the same price for all dogs/puppies. Others it can be different some may charge more for a purebred dog. Bless you for wanting to rescue I would suggest you try and find a GSD resuce or visit your shelters regularly because in the shelter they will often times go quick when they are available to be adopted.
  12. Absolutely-getting one at a shelter or animal control facility is the best choice! Good job in making a brilliant start as a future pet owner. You can expect to pay anywhere from about $30-$100 at a shelter. Don't be fooled by the stereotype--shelters DO have purebreds--a recent study revealed animal shelters have up to 35% purebreds!
  13. $175
