Hello everyone. How can I tell if my boxer dogs are German or American.?
I have a male and female boxer and they are both a year old. How can I tell if they are German or American Boxers. Are there any markings on the dogs, I should look for to tell me which is which? Thank you

- boxers are boxers there are "German Bloodlines" meaning the kennels that those dogs come from are located in Germany There are "American Bloodlines" meaning the kennels those dogs come from are located in America.. but both are still boxers, are the same breed. Some dogs could have both American AND German bloodlines.
- They will either bark in German or English.... bl
- Well, if you bought them from Germany they are german. If they were bought in America then they are American. See how easy that is.
- Hell, maybe they are French Boxers, or maybe even Mexican. The only difference between a German and an American Boxer is which side of the planet they were born on.
- The only German boxers are those born in Germany. So unless they were imported, they're American. Different countries around the world all have slightly different "styles" -- if you're referring to the stockier, flat-faced, rugged looking boxer that is common in some European countries, that would be referred to as European not German. But it is still incorrect to call a dog European just because it looks more like the dogs in Europe. It's still an American dog. Here's a great explanation of differences in boxers around the world: http://www.worldwideboxer.com/style.html
- Easiest: Look at its registration papers - THEY state what breed each pooch is, and the pooch's own registration code. Harder: (but for unregistered pooches) If you can find 2 kinds of Boxer in the web-site of the FCI (the International Forum of Canine Clubs, which stores the International Standard of every recognised breed): http://www.fci.be/nomenclature.aspx then you will have to compare their Standards. ( [alias boxer] - go there and take note of the correct 2-word name of the breed.) But I am sure that there is no such breed as an "American Boxer". You won't even find them in the FSS (breeds still in development) list of the only American canine club with international acceptance: http://www.akc.org/breeds/index.cfm?nav_area=breeds Therefore everything registered as a Boxer is actually a "German Boxer". Everything CALLED an "American Boxer" is actually an untypical deviation, a departure from the requirements of being a genuine Boxer, a pooch that is wrong in one or more ways. But that "breeder" likes to charge suckers extra for the "rarity" of their invented non-breed. Birthplace: But if you merely meant "How can I tell which country it was born in?" - well, if it was born in Germany it was registered in Germany, with a German-style registration code. I'm told that unfortunately the AKC arrogantly replaces the registration codes of imports - but after the name of such dogs it does place (Imp.Ger) or (Imp.Fr) or whatever letters show the country it was imported from.
