Cross Breeds

Are you Fed up with all of these 'Designer Breeds'?

I was looking through this advertisement website and was a little irritated by the number of people who advertise their cross breed puppies as one of those designer dogs. I came by A 'Maladoor' (a cross between a Malamute and a Lab), a 'Samreiver' (a Samoyed cross Retriever) and even a pugtese (a Pug cross Maltese)??? And these pups are selling for the same as a pure bread usually would! I am very annoyed with these backyard breeders and their efforts into producing these so called 'designer puppies' its not at all the dogs fault! There are so many unregistered mutts out their and these so called breeders are just adding to them...oh but just giving their mutts fancy names! I am not judging on any individuals or anything I just needed to see if anyone else thinks the same way or if I am just over exaggerating... I am also a big fan of dogs but as many people said I would rather want to see dogs in shelters find a home...and as I said its not the dogs fault...its the Producers and the Consumers!

  1. I'm just as irritated with the idiots that pay these people money for the mutts. I love it when they come with papers so the person with the mixed breed can argue with you about the fact their mutt is in fact pure bred. Just ask them what the breed standard is and where to contact the local dumbowner a dor club. That always ends the painful conversation.
  2. Ranting is really annoying. I'm sorry but ranting doesn't help the fact the mutts are being bred & sold everyday. As long as there are people wanting them, there will be people breeding them. Breed standards are hog wash, they change with whatever fits the fashion trend & most of the time, it's accentuated to the point now that most purebreds are unhealthy. I do NOT believe in breeding mutts, but the truth is, most of these purebreds are alleviated from so many issues just by cross breeding.
  3. i'm sick of it too. honestly these designer breeds are just expensive mutts. you might as well go to the pound and pick one up saving a life than pay up the butt for the same thing. I like my regular purebred and thats what i'm sticking to. if i ever get a "designer dog" i will be saving one from the humane society because i don't care what its mixed with
  4. I'm totally with you. It's irritating.
  5. I agree...but dont get me wrong, I LOVE mutts, but I would rather SAVE one for like $100 then get one from a BYB for $5,0000. The other day I was searching the 'net and found some "aussiedoodles" I was like WTH?!?! http://mapleviewdoxies.com/mapleviewpoodles/id33.html
  6. Oh I'm judging......My usual response: "There are MILLIONS and MILLIONS of HOMELESS DOGS...Why on Earth Create More" ???
  7. I own a maltese yorkie mix... a morkie. I love him. I don't consider him a designer dog, I consider him a mix, not a mutt. My rescued pit bull lab was treated the same way. I love them. I owned a pure bred yorkie, and he wasn't a better dog. He was just purebred. There is nothing wrong with them. They are the same as every late night neighborhood love puppy mutt whose parents did'nt care who they were mating with. I know he isn't purebred... and that's okay. He's sweet. He's an angel. So was my pit lab! Why do you hate these dogs so much? They need homes just as bad as a Bischon Frise that is a perfect show dog. Get over yourselves. Seriously.
  8. i mean they're cute i guess but i heard that cross breeding in dogs causes them to be retarded sometimes and aggressive. i bought a mixed poodle once and i swear that dog had problems. he was so hyper and overactive i even tried giving him something similar to ridalin ( that stuff they put in horses water to calm them down) and that couldn't touch him. so i guess it is kinda messed up
  9. the name designer breed annoys me. Most of these breeders are just cashing into the fad and enjoying the price hikes on regular mutts. Some of these new breeds are interesting though, it really shows that culturally we are treating dogs differently and developing new breeds for new reasons. For example, I think more toy dogs are being crossed because there is a bigger demand for companion dogs; therefore a wider array of tastes that people have in what they want in "the perfect dog".
  10. The one that got me the most and Im dying to see one, just out of curiosity, was the St Bernadoodle... A St Bernard/Standard Poodle cross... Can't even imagine! What really gets me is the blatant ignorance some people have. They feel like their designer mutt is a status symbol because of what they paid for it. Same as when people buy illegal exotics. No your $2000 mutt doesn't impress me. What can (s)he do? Oh yeah, thats right. Nothing. Because you just bought it and treated it like a living accessory. You didn't do a da** thing with it. Nice. And no, the fact that you own a wolf, bear, mt lion, panther, gator, raptor, venomous snake, etc. doesn't impress me either. Just proves to me that your idea of animal ownership is just that - owning an animal you can put in a cage, not share your life with. Great, another a**hole to contend with. Just goes to show the stupidity, lack of compassion and negligence some people live with daily.
  11. Yes, it's very annoying, and, most of all, super-selfish and un-kind, to breed mutts and sell them for horrible prices with a fancy name, while dogs with the exact level of Pedigree are dying in shelters.
  12. i'm not because people know mutts are healthier than kennel club breed standard purebreds and more popular than ever... as far as shelters go i don't believe they are as full as people say they are because animal shelters wouldn't be selling breeder license if they were...my animal shelter just this year approved 17 byber breeding kennels...6 more than last year..
  13. Absolutely. And the celebrities who are asking for them as a fashion accessory. Please.Mixing belongs behind the bar.Not in kennels.
  14. Mostly fed up with the public demand that encourages the practice.
  15. Totally disgusted... It's simply stupid that people would even BUY mutts for more than $50 from somewhere other than a shelter.... Especially purposefully bred mutts. People really need to get out of that hole, stop watching the media, and grow a brain.
