Who are Your Favorite 'Famous' Horses?

Show horses... race horses...movies horses... even from fiction literature. Who are your favorite famous horses? Mine? #1, always... Arabian great Khemosabi+++. He was my ideal horse physically, gorgeous conformation, bay with all the chrome. And his disposition, from everything I have read, was perfect. #2...Secretariat. One of the greats. What say you? Horse Lover... when did John Henry die???

Public Comments

  1. Manowar =]]] also Secretariat
  2. Mr. Ed He could talk.
  3. John Henry-may he rest in peace.
  4. As I said in your other question, I was a victim of cruel parents who wouldn't let me have a horse or a dog growing up so I know very little about horses. I did read almost every Black Stallion book there was so I will have to go with the Black. I think there was a red one in the books too, but its been a long time. <edit- Flame would be the red one> Add- Can't forget the Canadian icon Big Ben. I remember watching him.

  7. Modern Famous Jumpers: Shutterfly Okidoki Let's Fly
  8. i don't know why, but john whitaker's Milton, wasn't as famous as the rest- but one hell of a horse, died 1999
  9. MISTER ED!! HA HA HA! I always wanted a horse to stick his head into my kitchen window! And, Black Beauty, Flicka, and all of those poor horses from Movies in the early days that were tripped on wires, to create a fall for the camera......boo-hooooo
  10. milton, rex, red rum and shergar
  11. Sea Biscuit I loved that book I don't know a whole lot about horses, can you tell? lol
  12. Zips Chocolate Chip would be my favorite, followed by Mr. Ed as a close second. :-)
  13. Zenyatta. Who better win that HOY Eclipse award. >:V I also loved Alysheba, and John Henry, who had to go and die right after I moved to Kentucky, so I never had a chance to visit them at the Horse Park.
  14. Mine is Ona Good Impulse!! A lot of you probably haven't heard of her but I love her!! She won AQHA world and congress back in '08! I really like her because she's an ideal western pleasure horse and that's my game! I also love Secretariat! Did a research paper on him once and was amazed by all that he's achieved!
  15. Teddy O'Connor, Critical Decision, and Seabiscuit.
  16. Black Beauty was always my favorite. And, who COULD forget Secretariat... 31 and 2:24. Can anyone who ever witnessed a horse race, even if they do not absolutely love horses, ever forget those two numbers? 31 lengths ahead of the nearest competitor while running the 1 1/2 mile Belmont race in 2 minutes and 24 seconds. I believe that is still the fastest time ever recorded for that race. AND THE TRIPLE CROWN. I was young and into horses at the time. And like Kaper, wanted one so badly and...OOOOHHH... my dad had a big heart and a terrible memory, often calling one of his four daughters a variation of all four names (Judy, Joyce, Beth and Maria === while calling me... JuJoMaBeth!) For my little sister's 12th birthday ... she got a pony! Oh I was ill. LOL (Should I yell ABUSE) But I have digressed... What I remember most about the Secretariat Belmont race was the strength and beauty of the horse. There was no doubt in anyone's mind who was going to win. It was Secretariat's moment and his show. I am not sure I even remember seeing another horse during the race. A good memory!!! Add: Since we watched TV back then on a little black and white set, I never knew what this horse really looked like. He was a "gray color" to me. The first time I ever saw him in living color, i was in awe. Did he ever lose the beauty, grace and heart that we all felt during his moment in the sun? OHHH Lord...BYBscare4$.... see what you have done now? Nostalgia!!! Thanks for the memories. I needed them.
  17. Arkle, Cruising, Milton
  18. That Movie "Dreamer" gets me every time I watch it. "Seabiscuit" was another great. But I really liked the new "Flicka" movie also. But the one who stands out the most was the one I saw come out of the gate and shatter his leg "Barboro" will always be in my heart.
  19. Secretariat; Ruffian; Barbaro;Big Brown, and I love Jessica Springsteen's horse,Papillon 136. He is gorgeous. Horses from literature: Black Beauty,of course! And Flicka! Oh,yeah,Seabiscuit!
  20. Flicka Red Rum Bed O' Roses Black Gold Candy Stripes - All great names!
  21. I was in love with Pie from National Velvet. My dad taped the film for me when I was little and I watched it over and over again. I know it word for word. It was the film that got me into horses, and is probably the reason why I always choose chesnuts. So its got to be Pie.
  22. Probabilly not looking for this... However... When I was a kid and my parents wouldn't let me own a horse, I didn't went to Y!A and ask how to convince them how to own one (did Y!A already exist? I highly doubt); I read. I was a reader. I informed myself, but I never got to memorize any very famous horses. Exept the famous white horse of Napoleon Bonaparte ("what colour is the white horse of Napoleon Bonaparte?" the kids chanted at school) and Black Beauty. Black Beauty is a story written in the XIX century by Anna Sewell. Anna was ill most of her life, but with Black Beauty, which basically is the story of the life of a horse, she got to make people aware that animals are often badly negleceted. I didn't read it for a long time, but I remember it's a beautiful book. EDIT: They made a movie? Not sure if it was so great... - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109279/ 2ND EDIT: AHAHAH! Mr. Ed! How could I forget?! 3RD EDIT: Beth! Glad I'm not alone here ;)
