- I've looked all over the net about animal testing but I can't find anything! Here are some reasons (I've thought up a few): Destruction of Habitat Humans destroy precious habitat--the natural environment of a living thing--when they fill swamps and marshes, dam rivers and cut down trees to build homes, roads and other developments. Pollution Oil spills, acid rain and water pollution have been devastating for many species of fish and birds Hunting and Fishing Many animals are over-hunted because their meat, fur and other parts are very valuable. Exotic Species When animals or plants arrive into a new habitat from a foreign place they sometimes introduce diseases that the native species can't fight. These "exotic" species can also prey on the native species. Hope I helped! Edit - OH YEAH! Monkeys are endangered for animal testing which brit-brit reminded me :)
- monkeys are endangered becuase of that
- It wouldn't be allowed to use appendix one endangered animals for animal testing without having almost impossible to get special permits. In the past, animals have been driven to extinction for the fashion trade. Mainly birds whose feathers were used for ladies hats like the Carolina parakeet. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carolina_Parakeet Destruction of habitat is the worst threat to most endangered species, along with the introduction of predators. In the UK, the red squirrel is almost gone because of the introduced grey squirrel, the native crayfish is disappearing because of the introduced American crayfish and water voles are now rare because of mink released from fur farms into the wild by so called animal liberationists. An unusual and overlooked creature which was saved from extinction, mainly because of work done at London zoo, is the Partula snail. Giant African land snails were introduced to the island where they lived as a food scource and they ate the native snails. They were extinct in the wild and the island needs to be cleared of giant land snails and they can be reintroduced. http://www.zsl.org/conservation/regions/oceania/ A similar story is the Przewalski's Horse. It was extinct in the wild but because of captive breeding programs in zoos it has been reintroduced. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Przewalski's_Horse Then there are Pere David deer. Extinct in the wild but saved from total extinction because the Chinese Emperor has a flock of them. http://www.ultimateungulate.com/Artiodactyla/Elaphurus_davidianus.html
