What kind of scientist studies endangered animals?
Is it a zoologist or something else? I know a zoologist studies animals in general but is there a specific name for one that studies endangered animals
Public Comments
- No there is no name for that. People can have a focus on a specific species such as gorillas, tigers or manatees, but their title does not change just because they are endangered. Zoology, Marine Biology, Wildlife Ecology... all the same be it endangered or not.
- I do! We are usually zoologists, but there are a lot of zoologists who don't work with endangered species. Most of us are wildlife biologists, but may be employed by many different agencies, like the US Fish and Wildlife Service, state wildlife agencies, National Parks, etc. Other employers include non-profit organizations like the World Wildlife Federation, or private environmental consulting agencies. A lot of teachers at universities study endangered species as well.
