Can you pasture/raise a miniature horse with full size horses?

We own 3 horses and was wondering if you can raise a miniature in the same area with them or because of the size do you have to keep the mini seperate? Can we raise and pasture it with our 3 full size horses? If so, what is the interaction? Does the minature fall right into the pecking order? Does it get bullied? Any major concerns we should have?

  1. Yes you can. Seen it many times. It's really a matter of making sure the mini doesn't over eat. You can do several things for that. You can get a mini grazing muzzle and put that on while the mini is outside in the pasture. This way the mini doesn't over eat itself. The other thing is if there isn't much grass in the pasture, then your ok. The main problem is overly fat mini horses. Also, make sure your fencing goes low enough. My place isn't set up for a mini since the lowest board isn't that low and with a little influence, I'm sure it would go under the fence. Just remember that they do not eat as much as a full sized horse and to only give it what it needs. I gave the mini's at my place a 1/4 cup of grain, just to get them in and happy. And only a few flakes a day. Good luck
