How do I get my dog to go to the bathroom outside when there is snow on the ground?
My dog will not go number 2 outside now because of the snow on the ground. Every time I take him out he will pee then runs right back into the house and then poops in my room. I didn't have this problem until it snowed. How do I get him to go to the bathroom outside again?

- maybe your dog doesnt like the cold try puppy pads until it gets wamrer outside
- Put a leash on him. Keep him out until he goes. You COULD shovel a path for him but i wouldn't recommend it - doesn't take care of the "pooping on snow" issue and you won't want to do that in the dark when it's 10 degrees with snow to your knees.
- YOu will have to re house train. What helped with me is keep a spot on the grass shoveled so your dog can see the grass. It will work. So shovel a straight shot from the door to the grass. Andrea stop telling people to use puppy pads. Please do not use puppy pads, this will only teach the dog that it is ok to go in the house.
- Keep him outside until he goes, preferably on a leash. If the snow is too deep for him, shovel some away. If you know he's going to have an accident inside then prevent it, make him stay outside longer.
- Take him out on a leash and stay out until he does his business completely.
- Make a path where there is no snow. One of my dogs are exactly the same. She hates the cold and she would go pee outside and poop inside. Also, when your dog is outside, go outside with him and walk around with him, until he goes. If your dog doesn't, then put him in the cage (as for a time out). This is reinforcing that going to the bathroom outside is good and if he waits to go inside, that is bad. I hope that helps
- you throw him outside and lock the door, thats what i do to kids when im babysitting. its easy money.
- move to florida
- I had no idea there was a Christmas section on YA lol. Anyways, why don't you try not letting the dog come back in until it has gone poop? My dog hates going outside when it's raining, so I just put his coat on him and then he's fine because he's not getting wet. Have you tried that? Put a coat on the dog so it doesn't feel so cold when it's outside? You didn't mention what breed the dog was.
- I had a puppy that would ONLY go in the snow (he came to my home in December). He freaked out when the snow was melting trying to find the smallest bit of snow to go on. He was housetrained when there was snow on the ground, and associated snow with where he was supposed to go. I'm thinking your dog may have the same issue. Put the dog on a feeding schedule, keep him on a leash after he eats, and 20-30 minutes after he eats, take him out and walk him in the snow until he goes (it could be a long time). If he doesn't eliminate after 20 minutes outdoors-take him back in the house and keep him in his crate or on a leash for another 30 minutes or so, and try again. Eventually, he'll realize he now has to go in the snow.
- cause they don't like to get their butt wet!! my GSD was the same way..only she waited and didn't go in the house! How far do u walk for your dog to poop? U may have to shovel the snow with ur shoe so that he can find grass
- Tough love. Don't give in. Put the dog on a leash and stay out there until the job is done. I think the shovelling of a section of yard is a great idea. We do it ourselves, to help our Minpins to do their business outside. Works great.
