- I have a chihuahua, and I name it Tinkerbelle. It's a good name for a small girl dog.
- Maltese Papillon Shih Tzu KC spaniel Pomeranian Yorkshire Terrier
- Bichons are adorable. They are small and fluffy! Though, mine was weird they are ALL very small but mine turned out huge, up to my knees. I named it Bejou.-Pronounced Be-Shoo-
- First of all a dog is not a baby. Second of all there are way more things to consider than it's cuteness the fact that it stays little. Are you allergic to dog hair? How much shedding are you willing to put up with? How much time to you have to walk the dog?
- I have a little Miniature Poodle puppy and her name is Cookie. My aunt has a Maltese and her name is Pebbles her other dog who is a Pug is named Bam Bam. If you want little dogs I would say like a Shih Tzu,Maltese, Miniature or toy Poodle, and Pugs are very cuddly if that's what you want. Or if you want an energetic puppy you could ask for a Terrier, they come in all different hair styles so you could pick from alot there. Another one is a Dachshund, or what some people call them a wiener dog they are cuddly and playful. Hope you get your right puppy!
- definitely a wired hair terrier.they are cute and small.email me if you want a pic of him.absoulutely adorable.his name is Jasper.email me!
- Chihuahua's were never my favorite breed because everyone I'd ever met barked at EVERYTHING and it really is a pain. However, I recently rescued two Chihuahua/Dachshund mixes and they are fantastic dogs. They were mother and son. The mom (Piper) belongs to my Aunt since I couldn't have both of them. I really wanted them to go together though and be able to see one another since they were so close so my aunt took her. My dog though is playful but likes to cuddle. He only barks when someone is at the door and it's not a whole lot. He sheds a little bit but it's not really noticeable. His name is Solo and he is 2 years old so he won't get any bigger. He's about 11 pounds. Here are some pics. http://www.flickr.com/photos/45454859@N05/4175040733/in/photostream/ He crawled in my pillow case. LOL http://www.flickr.com/photos/45454859@N05/4175801824/in/photostream/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/45454859@N05/4175801846/ I also had a 4 year old fox terrier. He weighed 12lbs and he is the best dog that I've ever owned. He was a shedder but he was an amazing dog. http://www.flickr.com/photos/45454859@N05/4175801814/in/photostream/ Those are the only small dog breeds I've ever owned.
- Okay, please don't take my answer the wrong way, the last thing I want to do is be rude, but I have to say that questions like this do upset me. And that's because it is absolutely critical to do research and find what breed is best for you. Every single breed is different, and most breeds are not right for everyone. People that pick a dog simple based on size or looks will most likely not end up with a good breed for them. Every breed is so different in so many different ways. Some dogs are 5lbs full grown, some are 200lbs full grown. Some dogs require a lot of grooming, like brushing every day, paying lots of money to take them to a grooming at least every couple months, etc. And some dogs only require a bath once a month or so. Some dogs are very high energy and need 2-3 45-60 minute walks a day, if not more. And some dogs aren't very high energy and only require a nice walk around the neighborhood once a day. And that's just the tip on the iceberg. There are health issues to think about, there are the different lifespans of different breeds, whether or not a certain breed will do okay in a smaller home or not, how a certain breed does in certain weather, and the list just goes on and on! One of the biggest reasons there are countless dogs being killed in shelters every day, and countless dogs living on the street, is people not doing their research and running out and just buying a dog because it's small, or it's cute. They get that dog home and within a couple weeks they figure out what a huge mistake they made and they abandon the dog! And too many people don't think about how that affects the dog! Dogs get very attached to their owners. Dogs are pack animals, the family they live with is their pack, it's not normal for a pack to just abandon another member of their pack! That is absolutely traumatizing to a dog to go through! It just breaks my heart, and I would give anything to be able to rescue all of those poor dogs and find them the wonderful, forever homes that they all deserve, with a great, knowledgeable, responsible, loving owner! Another thing that bothers me is, it seems like it's normally the people that don't know what breed is right for them, that didn't take any time to do their research, and that just went out and bought a dog because it was small and cute, that go out to pet stores, backyard breeders, or these pathetic so-called "designer" breed breeds (which are nothing more than a glorified backyard breeder) to get their dog. It's people like that that support these horrible puppy mills http://stoppuppymills.org/inside_a_puppy_mill.html (pet store puppies come from puppy mills) and these disgusting backyard breeders http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&A=1448 (either the ones that breed pure bred dogs or the ones that breed mutts that they call "designer breeds"). Anyway, all that being said, like I said, I don't want you to take my answer the wrong way, I just want you to know why questions like this upset me so maybe you won't be like one of those people. Now, it is absolutely fine to want a small, cute dog. But again, there is more to it than that. I would strongly suggest you take some breed quizzes to find out what breeds may be best for you. After you take these quizzes, they will each bring up several breeds, then you should do some research on those breeds and pick from there. Not only is that absolutely critical anyway, but if you still live with your parents and are asking for a dog for a gift, showing them that you are serious and mature, and that you took the time to do your research and figure out what you are really getting into, will go a LONG way! : ) So, take these quizzes, do your research, and then pick your top 3 breeds. Then print out some info on why you like these breeds and why they are the top 3 best breeds for you, and give that to your parents. So, here are some good breed quizzes.. http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/search.htm http://www.selectsmart.com/DOG/ http://animal.discovery.com/breedselector/dogselector.do I'm sure it was also really impress your parents, not to mention actually be helpful to them, if you also took some time to look up different places where you could get your dog from. Once you find the best breeds for you, check out your local shelters on line and see if they have any. You would be shocked to know how many pure bred dogs shelters get. So many owners buy a dog from a breeder, and then drop it off at a shelter. Also, check out breed-specific rescues. My husband and I own and LOVE American Pit Bull Terriers, and when we get our next APBT we are going to get it from the largest "pit bull" rescue in the country. Breed specific rescues have SO many pure bred dogs. And then of course, check for reputable breeders in your area. A good way to do that is check the breeder lists on the AKCs website, or other websites like that. Anyway, so that and print out some info on places where your parents can go to get your dog. Okay, and last but not least, while owning a dog is like having a young child for 10-15+ years, dogs cannot be treated like babies. My husband and I love our dogs as if they were our children, and we call them out fur-babies, but they are still dogs. And for a dog to truly be a happy, healthy, stable animal, it has to be treated like a dog. You have to know all about the breed you own and what they need, and you absolutely have got to be willing and able to properly raise, train, socialize, control and care for that dog for it's entire life. You need to think about what you will do when you move out, and how much money, time and energy a dog takes. Not to mention, you have to do research to find a good-quality dog food, and get that for your dog. Any popular, commercial brand is digusting! Do your research and you'll see that. I will tell you though, foods to stay away from would be Iams, Beneful, Purina and Pro Plan foods, Nutro, Science Diet, Ol' Roy, etc, etc, etc. Great-quality foods would be Canidae (what we use), Natural Balance, Solid Gold, Innova Evo, Wellness Core, etc, etc, etc. Anyway, I could go on and on all day, I still didn't even get into what your daily routiene will be like when you own a dog, but I really hope this helps some. I hope you find the perfect breed for you, I hope you can convince your parents to get you your dog, and I really hope you will be a good, reponsible, loving owner for your dog for it's entire life! Good luck! : )
