Cross Breeds

is it ok to take a stray dog off the street?

this might be a stupid question but i will ask it anyway 9 years ago i took a puppy off the street he was a total mutt i never wanted to know what breeds he had cause it would be just impossible but i figured that he had to have some large breed cause he had one extra toe on his hind legs but he was really small he was like the size of a corgi he was really young when i took him maybe like 2 or 3 months old when i am from there is no animal control or human society there are heaps of homeless dogs on the street and no one interested in them and they do not seem to bother the people of the village that i lived in im sure that he would live longer but i just had to put him to sleep it was not an easy decision my family had our own house and there was no problem with having a dog but everythign changed when my grandmoster came back she was really not a dog person she beat him with like a broom stick she kicked him is something was not right and then she was surprised that he bit her not once but multiple times and it made me feel soo bad that i wasn't able to do anything i did not know that something like that would even happen that dog got really feral like a wild animal he was not approachable you couldn't even put a collar on him or even get him vaccinated cause he was trying to bite everyone i had to leave him cause me and my parents moved to another country and we were living in a small 1 bedroom apt. so getting him with us wasn't even an option and when i went for vacation back to my homeland it got worse and worse so i had no other choice than ot put him to sleep and end his and my misery now i kinda feel like im a bad dog owner and a person cause of what happened i have 3 dogs right now i have 2 mini schnauzers and a mini bull terrier puppy and i did not forgot about him i have his pictures i have a photo album with the photos of him and me

  2. Trust me, it was for the best. But I must say that you should've kept the dog away from your abusive grandmother. Wild dogs are wild because of 2 points. First, they have been abused for an excessive amount of years. And 2nd, they were either abandoned by their owner, or they ran away, so they've fomulated the oppinion that all humanity will turn on them. You can tame them for a while, but if they are abused even once after you've taken them in, they WILL revert back with no hope of reversibility. So, it's partly your fault for not keeping him away from your grandmother, but it's mostly her fault for being abusive. It is illegal to be abussive to animals, no matter what it is. If anyone you or she know, she could go to jail for a long time.
