Cross Breeds

Anyone have experience with Bengal cats?

I am thinking about getting a Bengal kitten. I have a 2 yr old cat already. Any suggestions for making introduction easier?

  1. They are beautiful. But, they are not really friendly...they retain a lot of their wild ancestry still and aren't really the cuddly type. If you're set on this breed, I'd work consistently to establish a great relationship with him from day one to maybe have a cat you can appreciate for more than just it's beauty when he's an adult. Good luck!
  2. My sister had 2 Bengals, gave them to our brother, and now they are living with our parents. I really like them, but I don't think they are for everyone (as evidenced by my sister's cats living in their 3rd home) This has been my experience with them: They do have a little bit different temperament than your average housecat. If you get one, make sure it's at least an F6 generation. The Bengals that are closer to their wild ancestors are definitely wilder and more of a handful. The male F5, "Congo" was pretty destructive at my sister's house. He chewed cords, ruined the blinds, and will eat plastic. He's extremely fiesty, but doesn't stay mad. "Bella" is an F6 female and she is more like an average domestic cat in temperament. She's very sweet and loves attention. Bengals seem more dog-like to me than other cats. I am a dog lover, so perhaps that's why I like them. They seem to get bored and need things to keep them entertained and busy otherwise they will find ways to entertain themselves that you may not like. If you decide to get one, just be aware that he/she may be a handful.
  3. I do not have a Bengal but I have clients who do and I see this cat regularly. Bear in mind my experience is with this one cat only. She a beautiful and very social cat. She has a cat companion but gets stressed when her people go anywhere for more than a day. When this happens she urinates in odd places including her water dish. This has caused problems, naturally. She is more active than most mature cats, likes to keep busy either playing with the other cat, trying to escape the house, or climbing to weird spots like the top shelf of a floor to ceiling bookshelf. She is obsessed with water. She loves running water, still water, spilled water. Loves to play with water. Except for a Siamese my sister had, I have never met such a talkative cat. It is cute but I would not want such a cat myself. She has something to say, sometimes at length, about everything. If she is typical of the breed you are going to be getting a whole lot of cat! Do your research and be 100% sure first.
  4. i think these cats are beautiful, i wanted one for a time but then i read about them. they cost a lot of money. they have no or little road sense people steal them for their fur and they are used in illeagal dog fights ='( if you were to get one i would be extra careful with it :) good luck xxxxx
