how come labradoodles get acceptance and cockapoos, surely these are just cross breeds?
if the above breeds can get acceptance and indeed books written about them, then surely there will come a time when silver labs are too. wether they are a dilute chocolate or in deed proved to have wiem blood. my skye is registered as a chocolate but i have a choccy as well and there is a hugh difference but character is just the same. and please she is not a just a mutt, that is rude, no dog is just a mutt...

- Get acceptance where? You are correct, they are cross breeds. Only dishonest sellers, gullible buyers and scam registries claim otherwise.
- they might get acceptance in books and talked about but does the AKC or the KC uk recognise them as a breed no? The day they do i will eat my hat?
- Where are those crossbreeds getting acceptance? Can you provide a link?
- I don't know why labradoodles and cockapoos get acceptance. They certainly aren't 'breeds,' because they don't breed true (don't have lots of little puppies that always look like them, generation after generation). With dog showing, it's mostly about conforming the dog to look like what is on a little piece of paper. I'm not really familiar with silver labs, but I'm familiar with other dilute animals (like Blue Greater Swiss and Isabella Dachshunds). Getting a breed club to accept a dilute color is going to be A LOT of work and honestly, I doubt that it will be any time soon. On another note, I'm sad that the AKC doesn't allow outcrossing and breeding back of breeds to similar breeds (like cats, cattle) and have a totally closed registry--this is just bad for genetic diversity and not helpful at all for inherited defects. Example, ALL dalmations have problems with hyperuricosuria and breeding one to a pointer at the UCD eliminated that inherited disorder. However, after generations of only breeding back to dalmations and coming out with a dog that fits the dalmation breed standard, the AKC still won't register these dogs as dalmations because of one pointer, way down the line, that alleviated the pain and medical problems associated with hyperuricosuria. I think it's sad that the AKC doesn't always support breeding to eliminate genetic defects. In your case, with color dilutions, I think it's a lot different in that a lot of the dilutes that I've seen have skin problems and a good number of them have allergies. Not something I'd really want for my dog, even if it was pretty.
- Oh yes, they are accepted in pet stores, known for their backyard bred/puppy mill mutts sold for an obscene amount of money. Yes those dogs are mutts, Mixed breed dogs heinz 57, there should be no offense taken for what these dogs actually are. I own four RESCUED mutts, im a mutt myself, no big deal. The big deal is when you come across a labradoodle(mutt), that no reputable kennel would EVER recognize, nor would any reputable breeder ever intentionally create, sold for $1500 at your local pet store, now thats a problem
- Trust me, you'll find most people in this section are scratching their heads over why these fake "breeds" are acceptable. They are mixes created by people who want money.
- This is nothing new the Queen bred a litter of what she called Dorgis which was a Corgi crossed with a Dachshund, she asked the KC if they would recognise her dogs as a breed, they refused even though she is their patron so there's not much chance that they will ever recognise back yard breeders oodles is there? There is nothing wrong with crossbreeds, mongrels, mutts whatever you wish to call them However the back yard breeders who fill up the shelters with dogs which turn out to cause allergies or moult heavily being brought by ignorant owners are wrong I have seen books about mongrels, what about intelligent and loyal by Jilly Cooper, and there are other books written about mongrels All dogs should be the best dog in the world to their owners, I have owned pedigree and mongrel and they have all been wonderful dogs
- A dog of an incorrect colour in a recognised breed is accepted - in that it can be registered with the KC or AKC, it can even be shown in the UK but a silver Lab - like a white German Shepherd - will never win in a show because it has a huge visible fault. Labradoodles and any other Poo cross are not accepted breeds -there are books written about Hobbits - doesn't mean they actually exist!
