Tracking Down A Thoroughbred Race-Horse History?

I have a 18 year old Thoroughbred horse. He has a lip tattoo. I am trying to find his history. He has a blaze with a stocking on his left hind leg. I think his name is Vernon's Major. He is a chestnut gelding. If you can help me an any way please let me know! Thank you

  1. The jockey club has a service where you give them the horse's tattoo number, color, age, sex, etc and they look up the horse for you. It used to cost money, but this year the jockey club changed it so more people could use the service. They'll tell you the horse's name and I don't know if they'll give you his pedigree and race results... you might have to still pay for that kind of thing... I don't know. You can look up pedigrees at www.pedigreequery.com... it has race records for a lot of horses too, but it's updated by users, so it may not be complete... but I looked up "Vernon's Major" and it didn't have any results... so either your horse wasn't added to the pedigreequery database or his name isn't right.
  2. Try all breed database .com ,but you will have to key in his name exactly.
  3. I checked the horse, VERNON'S MAJOR, for registration at the Jockey Club site. He was born in 1991, his dam is MAJOR TATER and his breeder is Norbert Simon. For the horse's pedigree they can visit http://www.brisnet.com and click "pedigree & lifetime starts" from the home page. There are various reports available for a nominal fee
  4. Short of offering up a dissertation on horse identification, if the lip tattoo is legible, it can be identified through The Jockey Club. Direct them to http://registry.jockeyclub.com and have them click "tattoo identification service" on the home page. They have step-by-step directions on how to submit the information needed to identify the horse.
