  1. Any as long as they are puppies. Every dog has a unique personality!!!
  2. ive heard great danes are very gentle. check out the great dane rescues local to you
  3. Get a puppy, and it should be okay, or go to an animal rescue, and ask to see dogs that will get along with a smaller dog, and make sure they meet before you bring it home. Our cattle dog loved my mums maltese, they were bestfriends. There's labradors, great danes, golden retrievers, etc. There's heaps.
  4. It al depends on the dog. I had a Rotti and a Lhasa and they were best of mates. Labradors and Golden Retrievers can be gentle as can Great Danes. I would avoid the working breeds such as cattle dogs and collies as they may try to herd up the smaller dog. Spaniels are another breed type to consider.
  5. whatever the breed is, it's important to note that introduction is very important in introducing/bringing home a second dog since your current dog may resort to jealousy knowing that he's had the house and the affection all by himself for some time. Here's a link that can give you a tip to do that and a breed selector quiz which can also help youfigure out the perfect breed that would match you and your pekingese. good luck! http://lnk.nu/dogtime.com/ssf.html http://lnk.nu/dogtime.com/t78
  6. My Grandma has a weimaraner at her house. Great gentle dog, pretty too. Gets along great with all the animals on her farm, even the little dogs. http://www.centradakotanavhda.com/Weimaraner.jpg
  7. just make sure you understand predatory drift.

  9. any dog can be trained to watch out for smaller dogs. just train the puppy when you first get it to be gentle.
  10. haha large dong.... mistakes are sometimes hilarious. Anywho, as most posters said, any dog when raised from a puppy will be OK with smaller dogs in the house. That said, certain breeds of dog will be more inclined to be the "dominant" one of the household. To play it safe, refrain from getting a dominant large breed that will undoubtedly try to fill the Alpha dog role. Cane Corsos, Presa canarios, dogo argentinos, boerboels, ovhcarkas, bull mastiffs, american bulldogs, American pitbulls, fila brasiliero, tosa inu, akita inu, etc. tend to me more dominant than other breeds. Perhaps try out an english mastiff (they are gentle giants), or a saint bernard. A newfoundland, a Great pyrennes, a leonberger, etc. refrain from Siberians and Malamutes as they have high prey drives and often like to chase cats and smaller dogs.... its in their nature to chase and catch, so you wouldnt want your pekinese to end up running for it's life..... not that huskies or Mals would even do this when raised from pups, but they have a higher propensity to do this, and for that reason I raise the point. Ideally, a newfie or a saint... a leonberger or an english mastiff. In my opinion, the best large breed for coexisting with small breeds is the Tibetan mastiff. Originally bred to patrol monasteries in Tibet, the tibetan mastiffs would generally loaf around until summoned by the Lhasa Apsos who would act as sentries.... then they'd call in the cavalry when they saw or sensed trouble and the Tibetan mastiffs would come running to deal with it. For this reason, Id suggest researching the Tibetan Mastiff.
  11. I had the same problem. When we got my dog, a goldendoodle, we had a Chinese crested dog, three cats, a hamster and a bird, so we couldn't get an aggressive dog. Our doodle is loving to all of my other pets, he even cuddles up with one of the cats! I strongly suggest a goldendoodle, they would fit your lifestyle. And there just plain old cute Hope you get a doodle!
  12. any dog can get along with a Pekineses as long as they were around them as puppies... I have a Pit Bull puppy that is afraid of a dog that is about 1/4 the size of her !!! LOL... as long as the dog U want looks calm and submissive, introduce them... I suggest doing it on neutral territory because neither dog should be territorial at the 1st meeting...or else they can become aggressive...
