Why do cats and dogs hate each other?
Cats and dogs....why do they hate each other SO much? And I would like to know wtf would happen if they actually get into a fight? Would the dog eat the cat or rip it to pieces or what?

- RACE WAR
- Then again the cat could gouge out the dogs eyes with its claws... Anyway they don't all hate each other, you see some cats and dogs get along fine.
- cats and dogs dont hate each other at all. It all depends on how they are raised. Some dogs have a high predatory instinct and sense cats are smaller they might look at them as food but they are just as likely to think the same way about a smaller dog or any other animal. Cats don't hate dogs ether. Some cats are afraid of dogs or just arn't used to being around them but then again cats can also be the same with other cats. Cats and dogs actually hating each other is just cartoon foolishness. A dog doesn't walk around thinking 'i hate cats, just because they are cats' but they might hate them if they had a bad experiance with a cat at some point and vice versa im not sure if you were looking for a real answer but i gave one anyway
- Cats are natures form of dog food
- Firstly, as others have said, cats and dogs can get along fine if they're raised together or introduced to each other carefully. That said, it's speculated that the reason they often end up in conflict is that they don't understand each other's body language. For example, a dog wags its tail in happy excitement, whilst a cat wags its tail in anger. So a dog approaching a cat would be encouraged to approach if the cat lashed its tail to warn the dog off. Cats also flatten their ears and lower their tails in threat, but in dogs, these are gestures of submission. If the dog continues to come forward when the cat is doing its best to warn it off, it might feel it is about to be attacked and raise a paw, ready to strike with its claws. Again, the dog will get the opposite impression from this, as in dogs a raised paw is a friendly gesture. Both animals have now got their wires crossed - the dog thinks the cat is being friendly, the cat thinks the dog is ignoring its warnings and being aggressive. So the dog approaches, the cat thinks it's about to be attacked and defends itself, and the dog, not understanding why the cat attacked, then retaliates. There are a lot of variables in any dog-cat conflict. A cat is better armed and more nimble, and can easily get the better of a small dog. Even big dogs can be chased off by cats - one of mine once scratched a German Shepherd on the nose and sent him packing. However, in a all-out fight, a big dog is likely to defeat a cat if it can seize it in its jaws. It probably would not eat the cat, though, unless it was a stray dog that was hungry - pet dogs are too well-fed to need to eat something they've killed in a scrap.
