Why do so many dogs try to "hump" my male boxer at the dog beach?

My boxer can be very hyper, I don't know if that is relevant, but it seems he is the most popular dog at the beach when it comes down to "humping". Every time I have to get at least one or two dogs to leave him alone. What gives? Riot, my dog, is nuetered. as all dogs should be.

  1. it's a dominant thing... the dogs at the beach hump him because they want to dominate your dog. add: lol kind of funny you bring this up, my dog gets humped by every male dog :S despite the fact that she's fixed... it's a bit annoying cuz i'm always shooing these dogs off of her.
  2. either your dog is "uber" sexy or he's got a big dose of hormones. other dogs can be very sensitive to this and react just like.....well.....like ANIMALS! lol!
  3. 'Cause your dog is a beast, the rest want him.
  4. Lab is right, it is a dominance ritual. It is funny because people that don't understand dogs probably think it is totally gay. You should try and prevent it though. This can lead to fighting, especially if one day your boxer decides that he doesnt want to be Freddie Mercury anymore. Dogs mount each other if they are not neutered too. Is he neutered? Are the dogs that are mounting him neutured. If they aren't then you should probably just go somewhere else because it can get ugly. An unneutered dog is very different than a neutered dog. They are much more wild (territorial, attracted to females, untrusting of males human or non). Try to make sure your dog is a little more calm before going to the beach. Before you entered wait until he isn't going berzerk, then go onto the beach.
  5. Has he been castrated? Sometimes entire dogs can pick on castrated males because they don't smell male and they are trying to dominate him. His hyperactivity may be winding the other males up too. He's going to have to learn to defend himself - otherwise I'm not sure how to advise you other than pick a time when there are not many other dogs around down there?
  6. well, i guess he's just not very dominant.
