Where can I find Yorkie puppies?
I am looking to buying a Yorkie in the near future. I'd like to find a Female and one thats in Michigan so I don't have to have it sent to me, I'd rather go pick it up. I'll be studying up on how to care for them, but I wanted to know where I can find one for under $600? I've tried puppyfinder.com and petfinder.com. Does anyone know any other good sites?

- Buy straight from the mill and save a few bucks-- trust me, it's cheaper.
- Good luck finding a female under $600. They are very expensive dogs, and can have costly vet bills. Try looking at a local shelter - some shelters have waiting lists for particular breeds. Also - before you buy read http://www.stoppuppymills.org
- Keep checking Petfinder (NOT puppy mill supporting Puppyfind, etc), and: http://www.dogsindanger.com http://www.petharbor.com http://www.1-800-pet-rescue.com http://www.1888pets911.org/ http://www.yorkierescue.com http://www.unitedyorkierescue.org http://www.barkbytes.com/rescue/yorkie.htm http://www.ytca.org/rescue.htm Consider adopting an adult dog! All too often they get overlooked, even if they've been housebroken and are easier to look after. In a toy breed such as a Yorkshire Terrier, who can be difficult to housebreak, this is a huge plus. Here are the benefits of adopting an adult dog: http://www.la-spca.org/adoptions/advantages.htm http://www.spotsociety.org/reasons.htm http://www.joycefay.com/articles/adoptadult.shtml If you're interested in adopting a dog but live too far away from it, there is often the option of having a dog transported to you/closer to you. Google "dog rescue transportation."
- Just buy a full grown dog or a rescue dog. there is no reason to buy puppies when there are so many unwanted ones in the world. PLEASE DONT buy from a mill. They keep there dogs in horrible conditions. Read about they online.
- Under $600, I can't help you there.... Dogs are expensive for a reason-- a responsible breeder usually has taken their dogs to shows and won awards. The most important thing is they have had the dogs tested for genetic disorders so they don't produce a litter of puppies that will only live a short sad life. (My dog only lived a year- I learned the hard way!) Breeding dogs is a huge expensive ordeal and very time consuming. That's why you need to either adopt a stray dog, or pay money for a good one. If you buy from anyone who doesn't offer registration papers for the puppy, and didn't get health clearances, they are BYB's and DON'T BUY FROM THEM!!!

- I feel really bad for puppies from puppy mills. They get treated pretty poorly. I'd not only check online, but I'd also look in the news paper. If you're really worried about getting a show quality dog, you won't get one for under 600 dollars. My jack russell was 400 dollars, but her parents weren't show dogs or anything like that. She was the from the first litter of a family's two jacks. She's the cutest thing ever, and obviously I don't give a care about having a show dog or one with expensive papers. My grandpa found an ad in the paper and that's how he ended up bringing her home. My grandpa is like you, he likes to go to the breeder's house to see how the puppies interact with the rest of the dogs and also people. Keep checking the websites, and also start looking in the local papers. You might get lucky.
- One of the best ways to find a quality breeder is to check with the national breed club. They might even have a list of breeders who have puppies currently. A good breeder breeds for conformation, health and temperament. It is a good idea if possible to meet the sire and dam of the puppy, since they are good indicator of temperament and health. Ask if the sire and dam have had a Certified eye exam and been checked for hip dysplasia. They should have and OFA of fair or better. So much more to know before buying. Do your homework
