What jobs are there that associate wild animals and what qualifications do I need?

When I'm older I would really like to do something with wild animals, preferably with me in contact with the animals, but what jobs are there? Also, what pay does each job get, what qualifications do I need (at GCSE, A level, and any others I need), and any other things you think I may need to know. Thankyou (: Also, I don't want to do anything to do with being a vet, I wouldn't mind looking after them afterwards but I couldn't do operations and things like that.

  1. to be honest, unless your going in for something media related (like tv presenter of wild show, like the crocodile hunter or something) or being a park ranger, the majority of jobs would be science based, like a wild vetinarian, animal rescue, marine biologist etc. so you would have to have a degree of medical knowledge. in which case you would have to get a degree in that so just an estimate GCSE: 7 A*-C A level: 3 (science based preferabley) and a dimploma. as for pay that sort of work is very popular with young people so very tough to get into without connections/ loop hole. so don't expect great pay especially in the first few years but if that is what you want then go for it the experience would be better than money. good luck
  2. You might try to get a job with the U.S. Government, or some state government, in the Parks Department. You would need a degree in biology or zoology at least, probably a masters degree.
  3. I am doing a college course at the moment called Btec national diploma in animal management. The course covers all areas of the animal industry such as animal biology, behaviour, handling, feeding, anatomy and physiology, collection types, genetics, exotics, biochemistry, wildlife rehab and nursing. (these are just several examples) Check out www.reaseheath.ac.uk From this course you can stay on and do a degree afterwards which you can specialise in a particular area which you enjoy. From the course im doing you can work in kennels and ccattery'sand also apply as for a trainee zoo keeper. Other jobs in the animal industry involve handling such as dog handlers for the police, fire service or army. You could be a dog trainer, or animal behaviourist, a farrier or a vet nurse that just cares for the animals whilst they are in for treatment.
