information on sea horses, new pet?

so my dad recently told me that he'll buy me a sea horse (i've wanted one since i was like 2 years old and i am now 16). are all sea horses salt water, or are there fresh water ones? are they difficult pets - high maintinance? are they expensive?

  1. Seahorses live in the ocean as they're original environment, which makes them sea water animals, not fresh water. I've never heard of a fresh water sea horse, but you can research. You can buy captive-bred ones rather than a wild one. There definitely needs to be some plants that the creature can anchor itself to, if not, the seahorse is going to have a hard time swimming and resting. They require good water quality. They can be sold up to $8o.oo. 2. Seahorses are 100% saltwater. They require pristine water conditions and are not considered a beginners fish. There are inexpensive seahorses $25 and expensive seahorses $250. I highly recommend starting your first aquarium as a freshwater community tank if you haven't had an aquarium yet. If you have, then start with a small saltwater tank in the 40g breeder size (36" x 18" x18"). Very nice size beginner tank. There are a lot of things to learn about saltwater fish. Seahorses are a specialty. Are you aware that seahorses (unless you get lucky and get them to eat frozen) like live food? They are very slow feeders, slow swimmers and need hitching posts. I admire your desire to start a seahorse tank. I also commend you on reading up on it before going out and buying one and asking questions later. Good job.
