am i right about this ??? this is either a puppy mill or a back yard breeder. my cousin bought a puppy and ..?

ok so last night my cousin came over to share the news that he bought a puppy ( like i care about it) i dont have a good relationships with him so he told me that he will have this puppy next week it will be delivered to him i dont know if it iwll be flown over or if the "breeder" will drive it here anyways he paid 300$ for a chihuahua x terrier mix and when he said that he got a mix breed for 300$ i laughed cause no AKC breeder breeds mutts and sells them for 300$ he said that it has all the shots and is de-wormed and that it has papers and quite frankly i don't buy that crap . the person that sells those puppies sent him some picture and it looks like a mutt like you dont have any idea what is it it looks nothing like chihuahua terrier mix but more of a like a German pincher or a mini pin but there were 5 other puppies laying in like a doggy bed with the b.tch i told him that its either a puppy mill dog or from a BYB from the pictures it looked really nice i also told him that for a 300$ you would have a great dog from the shelter that already is spayed or neutered, has all vaccinations and is probably house broken and he said that he doesnt want any mutt from the street that those dogs are "bums " and that there are no small breeds at the shelters so he would rather buy a dog from a pet store ( i know puppy mill dogs ) he doesn't even know what that is he said that its like a prison where dogs are killed and there is no way in hell that those nasty looking dogs are sold in pet stores so i just gave up arguing with him as it didn't made any sense its like talking to the wall the puppy is from Minnesota and he lives in NYC and thats its a private breeder

No reputable breeder breeds mutts and then sales them for $300 + This is a classic BYB and he got scammed....even if the dog had all of its shots...it can still be inbred and have temperamental problems. BYB's often try to back them self's up with LIES all a BYB is...IS A BUNCH OF LIES.... Registry papers can be falsified and shot records can also....

3. I would say hes being scammed. If he does end up with the dog, make sure he takes him to the vet to see if he actually has his shots. $300 is a lot for a mixed breed. Yeah I work at a shelter and you can get a great dog (sometimes purebreds) for $75-100. He should cancel and go to a shelter.
4. i would request seeing the breeder and the conditions the puppy is living in i bought my chihuahuas from a breeder for around 200 their both males he NEEDS to know the condition and puppy's history before he buys it
5. you are correct - there are no papers Id be surprised if he even gets a dog at all. He is incredibly naive about breeders, AKC papers etc have him google puppy mills, oprah's reporter lisa ling did an in depth eye opening report on them

7. It sounds like he's buying from a broker. Brokers buy puppies in bulk from puppy mills & BYBs. If anyone even shows up with a dog, the papers mean nothing, because no reputable registry registers mixes. I can see why you don't like your cousin, but if he gets the dog, he'll end up paying for his stupidity 100 times over in vet bills.
8. Everything you said is correct. There are plenty of small mix & pure breeds for adoption thru shelters or rescues. They are adopted quicker than larger dogs so he might have to wait a brief while before getting a dog. He could pay a fee to register with any of the fake registries like his puppy is registered. You can't educate ppl who don't care about anybody but themselves - as long as he gets a puppy when he wants one is apparently all he cares about.

10. He got his dog from a BYB. Mutts can not get papers, they are fake. And just because he paid $300 to a bad breeder, that mutt is better than all the mutts sitting in a shelter? I can see why you don't bother with him, he is a moron.
11. email your cousin the youtube links of puppy-mills see if he changes his mind I do understand him not being able to find small breeds often in shelters,but if he called weekly or asked them to contact him if small breeds do come in to call him but shelter may not always know the mixes,so that would be also the same as going to a pet store or buying from online ADDED there is a puppy-mill or byb in our mists,everyone is getting negs
12. Chances are you are right A BYB will have mutts like that and sell at a low price but puppy mills will have A Lot a puppies and pregnant dogs. They might be a AKC breeder breading Chihuahua and terriers and had a mistake.
13. if they breed over 3 litters a year yes it's a puppymill. reputable breeders breed crap.what does it matter where he bought the pup?his money his business.
14. No reputable breeder breeds mutts, it is a BYB/PM..poor dog will probably end up in the pound because he won't be able to housebreak it or afford the vet bills. Plenty of small dogs in shelters here, one shelters ALWAYS has 4-6 Chihuahuas, a few TFT or Rat Terriers, several JRT, Bichon, Poodles and other small dogs plus small mutts cheap and all vetted.
15. The puppy is a 'designer' mutt from a BYB & your cousin has been scammed...papers? Not the kind that matter, I'm afraid... There are no such things as bums in the dog world.....except for the two legged kind that try to justify what they have done by attacking others...sad. Just wait until the 'non-bum' dog starts having personality issues & health problems...and the vet bills start to mount....if the puppy survives being shipped and doesn't arrive sickly...or dead. ..and let's see what kind of recompense the BYB gives your cousin if that happens....None I bet ...and there are plenty of small dogs, pure bred ones too, up for adoption....check out any rescue group for a specific breed...and Petfinders.
