Cross Breeds

What types of dogs bond strictly to one person?

Title pretty much has the brunt of the question here. What breeds are known for bonding closely to only one person?

  1. it depends on the dog. but labs, gsd, and other well known loyal dogs are your BEST bet..but it really depends on the dog not the breed.and how you treat the dog
  2. chihuahuas are like that. mine is my husbands shadow!
  3. Herder,Doberman
  4. labs, retrievers, beagles and chi's (cant spell that name)
  5. Border Collies do... But they're intensively high energy dogs, not recommended for most people.
  6. Generally the madly energetic breeds that are NOT suitable for 1st time owners! Australia Kelpie The Australian Kelpie is a loyal companion. They are mild mannered at home and intense when at work. This breed is rarely affectionate and typically bonds to one person. They are highly devoted and friendly to their master. Australian Kelpie's do well with children they have been raised with and will herd other dogs, pets, and animals. The Australian Kelpie is not aggressive but will guard and protect his family and territory regardless of any risk to themselves. American Water Spaniel Belgian Malinois Belgian Sheepdog Belgian Tervuren Bernese Mountain Dog Chihuahua Chow Chow Doberman Pinscher Irish Water Spaniel Komondor Manchester Toy Terrier Norwegian Elkhound Norwich Terrier Old English Sheepdog (pm) Pekingese Pomeranian Pug Rottweiler St. Bernard (pm) Schnauzer, Giant Schnauzer, Standard Scottish Terrier Skye Terrier
  7. Shar Pei are known for this.
  8. Pugs were bred to be lapdogs, so naturally they will try to do their "job" and follow you everywhere you go. It really depends what kind of dog you're looking for though. If you narrow down the criteria to small or large, calm or active, shedding or long hair, etc. then it will be easier to determine what dogs under that description are best known for closely bonding to humans.
  9. I have a Collie x Labrador x Aussie Cattle Dog and she is so loyal its irritating, ive had her for nearly a year now and haven't had a minute to my self since! lol!! Labrador Collie Cattle Dogs Rottweiler German Shephard
  10. A lot of answers said it, but I'd be hesitant to call a Labrador or other Retrievers as bonding closely to only one person. They tend to be open to everyone, that's just how they are, they may bond to someone closely, but they are very willing to establish lesser bonds with everyone else. In my experience, German Shepherds tend to bond closely to just one person. It's almost like it goes in rings of bonds - first is just the one person that they are very close to, then people that are around often like family members, then strangers. I have two shepherds and if I'm around they couldn't care much less about anyone else, they're my shadows. Rottweilers tend to be the same way. Both are high-energy breeds that need a dedicated owner, certainly not for everyone.
  11. Chihuahuah's are horrible for doing that. My dad had one and it was so temperamental it was like PMS constantly not knowing how the dog would feel about you each day. She even got major territorial with my stepmum trying to sit down next to my dad on the couch.
  12. NONE! That's yet another fairy tale for the gullible kiddies. Any dog can be made into a neurotic, clingy, nasty dangerous beast by it's ignorant slothful owner.
