Types of Dogs that Get along with Cats?

Hi. I need a couple breeds of dogs/mutts that get along well with cats, smaller, and isn't too hyper. I love my cat a lot, my cat is a little lazy. If you know any good breeds that are just typically nice breeds of small dogs, let me know please!

  1. all dogs will get along wid cats if you give them enough time together
  2. labs are very calm and gentle dogs so i recommend dogs but defintly not a chihuhua or smaller more angry breeds
  3. You could get any dog to get along with cats if they're trained right when they're a puppy. I'd suggest smaller dogs, because big dos tend to pounce on them when they're in play mode.
  4. I used to have a cat when i had 3 Shetland Sheepdogs (still have the 3 dogs now). They are like miniature Collies. They got along well with the cat (although there were some limits about territories) . I think it depends on the dogs personality. Shelties are small and they also are good dogs around small children. There are 3 basic colors of them- Sable in white, tri color (black, white, and tan) and blue merl. http://www.sparkshire.com/sheltie_info.htm Go to that site. They give you all this information about them! http://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1CHMA_enUS319US319&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=jpg%26 That site is more about there coat colors.
  5. My German Shepherd and calico cat are best friends. He has even protected her from our 6 month old puppy, when he tries to chase her.
  6. all dogs, um beagle, bichon frize if you like that type, chihuahua, pomeranian, etc... your best bet is to get a puppy so you know they will get along :)
  7. As long as the dog is clean cats don't mind.
  8. Our shepherd mix and lab/pit mix get along great with our two cats. Just be sure to let the cat take the lead, and do your best to let the dog know that the cat is dominant over him--worked in our house. A 62 and 70 pound dog are great around our 2 10 pound cats. We have never had a problem.
  9. as long as they are introduced correctly yyou shouldn't have a probelm the probelm would now be the cat and it's territory.
  10. I wouldn't get a terrier. Their natural instinct is to hunt (that was what they were originally bred for) and smaller dogs have a lower chance of getting along with cats, like Chihuahuas or Pomeranians. I would go with a Beagle, however they howl a lot. Or maybe a Cocker Spaniel :-)
  11. Search on petfinder.com, and look at the dogs housed by rescues. Every single breed is represented on there, and you'll be able to find a dog where the rescue has exposed them to cats. Usually, they're pretty upfront and will tell you if they're good with them or not. A small dog is just as likely as a big dog to be friendly with cats.
  12. Maltese Shih Tzus
