What are some dogs breeds that are friendly with kids 8-11?
I am writing a story about a girl who is getting 5 PUPPIES. So what are some dogs breeds that are friendly with kids 8-11 if they are puppies?
Public Comments
- Beagles! Most beagles are great and very playful with kids.
- Every dog breed has the potential to be friendly with children. Proper socialization and training. Some breeds take more training & patience - dachshunds are notorious for not liking unfamiliar people & dogs.
- Labs, Golden Retrievers or dalmatian
- Springer spaniels are very good with kids.
- Any dog that has been well socialized with people of all ages. Equally important is how the children treat the dog; even a well socialized, well behaved dog can have too much ear pulling, tail grabbing, hitting and pinching.
- All dogs that are trained
- It would depend largely on the temperament of the children. But here is a list of breeds that typically do well with children in the 8-11 age range: English Setter, Australian Shepherd, Keeshond, Beagle, Labs, Norwegian Elkhound, Collies (any variety). I would rate the collies above all others, but that’s personal taste more than anything else. Dog Breed Info is a relatively good website. - With kids in the house, it's generally better to select a type of dog bred to live and work closely with people, such as sporting or companion dogs. Here's more info: http://dogtime.com/breeds-best-with-children-burwell-faq.html
- definately golden retrievers, they will let kids do anything with them
- Cocker Spaniels are brilliant with kids. I have an 8 month old Cocker and 2 boys aged 3 & 5. My dog is very gentle and careful with the boys as are the boys with her.
