New Puppy Won't Stop Crying! Help?
So we got her yesterday, from a friend whose dog had puppies. She's a puggle, a beagle-pug cross. a beautiful little thing, but very hard to satisfy! She's been crying for I don't know how long this morning, and just a moment ago fell asleep, but I'm asking- help for crying puppy, because i've been trying everything to get her to shut up. Food, water, playing, exploring my room, petting, holding, letting my older dogs socialize with her- And she wouldn't quit whining. Not just a wimper kind of whine, but like "Waaa!" that's more of a shriek. She's maybe four or five weeks old, already eats soft foods and we have her at home. I adore her already and she's so cute, so good-natured, but trying to keep her happy, it's a guessign game. I feel like a mom. Lol. She seems to like it when I hold her in my hand, raising and lowering her gently like you see dads do with their human babies, you know, like playing.... Well, it's just frustrating, this adorable little thing, and she acts so miserable. She'll hush for a few minutes but then the whining will be back. Help?! thanks.

- Make an abrupt louder noise then she is making every time she starts. if she keeps it up put her on her side and say no ever time she tries making the noise. Make her know that isn't acceptable.
- Your pup is really too young to be away from mom yet, but you may have to put her/he in a carrier or crate. But a heating pad under a blanket, so they cant chew on it, a stuffed animal their size. if you dont have a heating pad a pop bottle with warm water will work too. They are not use to being away from mom and the other pups yet. Hang in there!
- She is at least 4 weeks too young to be away from her mother and litter mates. It is irresponsible to take a pup away from their mother before they are 8 weeks old. They learn very important behavioural lessons by staying with their litter and also build up their immune systems and are provided with appropriate nutrition. If they are taken away earlier than 8 weeks the chance of behavioural issues and/or health issues is increased hugely. You should take her back to her mother and littermates until she is ready to leave, after 8 weeks of age. In the meantime you can do some research on how to raise a pup including how to deal with crying. Please, do the responsible thing.
- Give him some kibble-stuffed chew toys and then practice leaving and returning for short periods. Keep the whole affair matter of fact and unemotional--no gushy five-minute explanations about where you're going, how much you wuv him, or why this hurts you more than him--and he's likely to learn you'll always come back. http://dogtime.com/new-dog-no-worries.html
- you should get a peice of the rug with the smell of the mum and pupies on it and a ticking clock under a blanket with a toy
- Puppies are smart even at even at that age. What is happening is when she cries, you give her attention. You are rewarding a bad behavior. Give her attention when she is quiet and calm. She will learn real quick that crying doesn't get her attention.
- She is too young to be away from her mother and siblings. Dogs should be no younger than 6 weeks old when they are taken from their family. I would always recommend 8 weeks. Sometimes situations prevent this from happening, but if at all possible, puppies (and kittens) should stay with their mother until 6 weeks of age. They're part of a pack - she misses her pack that is why she is crying. She is calling out for her siblings and her mother. You should put her back with her mother for another week or 2. If you can't do that, then you will just have to put up with the whining. One other thing - since you brought her home and have other dogs in the home - have you taken her to the vet yet? Puppies should always be vet checked at least 2 times within those first 6 weeks. So many problems can occur during those early times in their lives. Puppies also need to be de-wormed - ALL puppies need to be de-wormed. Perhaps if she isn't calling out to her family, maybe she is in pain somewhere, or sick, worms, other parasite? You should have a vet de-worm her as soon as possible. I wish you luck, I know it's tough to deal with crying that you cannot subside.
- She is just crying loudly for her Momma and her litter mates.. She is trying to get them to hear her and come for her. Only time will help this. It shouldn't last too many more days. Just keep doing what your doing. Don't lose your patience with her.. It's very frustrating I know..
- Honestly? If you want the truth, if this puppy is only 4/5 weeks, she should go straight back to her litter. She's a BABY and needs the comfort and support of her litter-mates, and the occasional visits her mum should now be giving her litter. Puppies start being weaned from around 3 weeks. Between then and around 6/7 weeks, they will need, yes, truly need, the comfort suckling that they normally get from their mother who will probably not want to go in with them and lie down to allow them to suckle, but stand up, and clean them up too. I hesitate to suggest puppies go back to breeders who will even remotely think about selling them before they are 8 WEEKS at an absolute minumum, but this puppy seriously doesn't need to be out with you yet. She is miserable. Please phone your friend, and explain that she's not doing well and she needs to be back with her until she is 8 weeks (and better yet, 10 weeks!!). Meantime do not take her out anywhere - she can't have her shots yet (well it's not advisable because her immunity levels may still be somewhat up and shots won't take) Cute and adorable is not enough! She needs more time. Add - K9train..... HUGE apologies, I clicked on the TD by mistake - your reply should get a big TU from me!!!
- You puppy is crying because she feels insecure and is missing the love and security of her mother, father and siblings. Try to make her feel secure like you are. Answer mine http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AhYbQHCsMEYXQiVd1bQYjprg5gt.;_ylv=3?qid=20090627041538AAGUxLz
- can you make 'like her mum'? Make a 'pouch' like a Kangaroo and have her with you for a while. Some-times this and sometimes that !!!
- Get your puppy used to the area. Start by locking him up or putting him outside, and stay with him to show him how much fun it is to be there.
- Pups should remain with their mother until they are 8 weeks old. That could be one reason why she is crying. Or perhaps she is sick. But i would guess that she is just way too young to have left her mom and her litter. Have you scheduled a vet appointment? I would do it asap. And I would take her back to her mom where she belongs for another 4 weeks. No reputable breeder allows a pup to leave at 4 weeks...Only back yard breeders. What a shame.
- to young to leave mom yet puppy,s should be 7 to 8 weeks old before being taken from mom. try a stuffed toy. or a windup clock in her bed the sound of the clock is like mothers heartbeat.
