Horse Racing Mystery Book for Teens?

I am trying to find a book that I loved as a teen. It was a mystery involving horse racing. There was a girl that was an exercise rider and suspected that the farm owner's pleasure horse was actually a famous racehorse that had supposedly died. I believe the horse's name was American Express. If anyone has any idea what the name of the book is I would greatly appreciate it. I read it in the middle 90's. So it may have been published anywehre from the late 80's to early 90's.
