why do some people have a problem with cross bred dogs?

i have a lovely puppy he is six months old. the other day i took him for a walk and a woman and her child came over to stroke him, she asked what kind of dog and i said "border collie" she went into some kind of coo-ing fit sayin how sweet he was so when i finnished my sentece "crossed with a staffy" she grabbed her child away from him looked at him like he was diseased and went "oh its only a mutt come on" and dragged her kid down the street. ive also had other people look at me gone out when i tell them my dog is a crossbreed, and some people say he should have been put down. if everynbody had this attitude all the poor little mixed breeds would never get a chance in life, theyd all end up in rescue or being put down! what is these peoples problem? http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/photo.php?pid=331469&id=1256077553 http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/photo.php?pid=341332&id=1256077553 thats him when he was younger ps i rescued him from a dog shelter when he was 12 weeks old as he had been bullied at his previous home by an older dog and couldnt get any food etc. he is an extremely intelligent dog extremely lovable not a bad bone in his body he is as soft as a brush lol

1. No one has a problem with mutts..they make wonderful and loving pets...I see nothing wrong with a dog when you adopt one. Or when you foster or rescue one from a shelter or rescue organization... How ever I do have a problem with BYB's who breed mixed breed dogs on propose for the purpose of selling them to scam people.
2. It isn't because he is crossed breeds. It is because he is mixed with Staffie. A lot of stupid people hate pit bulls, Am Staffs, and all the other bully breeds. It is a sad stereotype that these dogs are killers. People don't understand that no dog is mean just because of it's breed/breeds. ADD- He is adorable!!!
3. i guess it's just because some people are snobby, stuck up and ignorant. you should have told the lady her kid looked like a mutt. no, i'm just kidding. that would be mean. but still... your dog's adorable, btw!
4. People are a bunch of a**es. It really makes me mad that there are so many uneducated twits in the world that have no clue about animals, when we really would be dead without them. There is nothing wrong with mixes, in fact, i think they are the best dogs on earth, especially the kind from shelters. They are sweet, loving, inexpensive, and best of all are just as good, if not better than purebreds.
5. That is soo freakin stupid and ridiculous! Plus thats kinda like dog racism or something! I've never cared if a dog was mixed and I think its not only absolutely stupid but pretty ignorant and stuck up as well. Im sorry that you had to meet someone like that!
6. You are right on all counts. With the "puppy farms" in full swing, many pure bred dogs are becoming more retarded all the time. Backyard breeders are crossing sons with mothers, and daughters with fathers, etc. They are getting very inbred. Mixed breed dogs have dna from different parents, and tend to be smarter and more easily trained. Don't listen to those who don't like mixed breeds, or pay attention to them. If you love your dog, that's all that matters.

8. They probably have a purebred and just want to feel like they have a superior breed. I have a mutt (beagle and australian cattle dog) and everybody likes him but I have gotten my fair share of death stares. It's not you or the dog, it's the people's problem.

People shouldnt have problems with them......cross breeds and pure bred dogs both have the same amount of love to give...ignore these people they are foolish and one sided Good for you having a mix breed. I have 2 mix breeds at my house a german shepard mix and a mutt crossed with so many things its just crazy:):)
10. Your dog is very adorable for starters! I've owned a border collie, and also plenty of mixed breeds. I have no problem at all with mixed breeds and many times mixed breeds are healthier because they can reduce the chance of getting diseases or problems that certain straight breeds have, and I think they can look pretty darn cute! The dog I have right now is a cockapoo (cockerspaniel, poodle mix) and she's the sweetest dog ever! I think that some people are crazy to think that mixed breeds are any different. I don't even call them by the name mutt. They're just as sweet, cute and loving as any pure breed or show quality breed. I don't know where that lady was coming from. She should keep her opinions to herself, and that was totally rude. She was the one who came over to stroke your dog with her child even before she knew the breed. Because it's mixed should not change anything. I feel for you x
11. i don't know what their rpoblem is i have a puppy whch is have german shepherd half husky and two similar situations happened to me= 1. I was walking her and these gansters asked-what the heck is that a coyote 2. My dog got out and the neighbors jumped on their window seal and said that they were scared of it and that it was an ugly mutt!! It realy makes me upset. By the way you have a very CUTE dog.
12. What person in their right mind, what planet are they from? I have heard several stories such as this and I've owned mutts in my lifetime and have never ONCE seen or heard any such thing until recently (like since I started coming to YA). I'm continually amazed at the world's ever increasing stupidity.
13. First of all you have a lovely puppy. I think the lady was not happy with those people who support BYBs or puppy mills. But she overreacted. I think she could have been nicer to you, and more considerate about your feelings.
14. He's adorable! I only have a problem with back-yard breeders & puppy mills making those "designer" mutts like Yorkie-poos, cockapoos, Maltipoos, etc. I've had some of the best mixed breeds that I rescued from puppy mill busts and animal shelters. As of now, I have a Doberman x Boxer mix(called a "doxer" by puppy millers and BYBers...) and while she isn't exactly gorgeous, think she's still pretty cute...I've had a Yorkie x Chihuahua from a puppy mill bust(Foxy, since she looked like a little red fox!)....a German shepherd x golden mix from the animal shelter(Zuko)...a German shepherd chow mix from the shelter(Willow)....a golden chow mix named Savana from a shelter...and many others...
15. Oh my, you must be a MUCH better person than I.... if anyone had the nerve to say something that rude, I would give them a mouthful! I have no idea why anyone would say that to you.; I am as perplexed as you. The next time you talk to someone who says something like that, you should ask if they are purebred and request to see THEIR pedigree.
16. i pretty much agree with most of the other answers. people who act like that about crossbreeds are ridiculous. i have 3 dogs, purebred australian shep, border collie/ aussie, and a black lab/great pyrenees. ALL 3 of them are amazing dogs, the sweetest things are very smart, they actually clean their kennels (they picked it up from the collie) they put their toys in one corner, and the hair on their beds in another, and they all do tricks, can be completely trusted without a leash, and "speak" on command. like i said they are amazing dogs, very very loving.
17. Sounds less like a problem with him being a mutt, and more like a problem with him being a (gasp!) PIT BULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Run for the hills! It's a vicious killer!!!! People are stupid.
18. he is soooooo cute. i have a dog that is dachsund, beagle, and jack russell. he even has freckles, his legs are shorter than his tail and he waddles like a penguin. hilarious. i think that some "people" dont like "mutts" becasue they arent "purebreads" i think thats BULL. some and in my opinion most are better than purebreads. and when someone does that to your dog, stick your nose in the air and say "yes i know what youre thinking, he IS diseased, just like yourself." then stick your tongue out and watch thier face, it is soooooooo funny, i do it every time and it never gets old.
