Cross Breeds

What do y'all think of cloning endangered animals? Or even cloning animals? Should zoo's be the answer?

I've asked what you think of animal cloning. But what do you all think of cloning endangered animals? Or even what do you think of animal cloning all together? Do you think zoo's are the answer? Do you think they should be put in the zoo's to mate naturally instead of being forced? Let me know.

  1. I think zoos are better because their breeding programs ensure genetic diversity for the species.
  2. Cloning animals isn't the answer. Neither are zoos. Zoos breed animals for the soul reason of making money. If a zoo has an animal that is extinct in the wild, people will pay lots of money to see it. Most Captive breeding programs do nothing for wild animals. They do it to make a profit. It does no good to have animals bred in a zoo, if they dont have a habitat to be released into. Some zoos do good work in conservation and truly believe they will one day release some of their captive bred animals into the wild. If we want to save an endangered species, we should save their habitat. There is a reason, usually man made, that the species isn't thriving. We need to correct the problem so they can live their lives in their natural habitat, not in a cage at a zoo. If we cloned them, and they didn't have a habitat to live in, what good is that? However even if there was a place for them to be released to, cloning is a bad solution. You lose genetic diversity, and it could bring out genetic problems.
  3. Zoos and cloning are only part of the equation. Why? Because there is no point in cloning or captive breeding programs if there is no save habitat to release them into. Zoos and other facilities need to continue breeding and SSP (species survival plan) programs to keep bloodlines healthy while at the same time the world works to make habitat safe from poaching and other dangers. As far as cloning, if it can be done so that animals are healthy and can breed it could be the key to saving some species. The problem is most cloned creatures are sterile, so there is no point. With zoos, no animals are "forced" to make. The only thing is controlled is who can breed with who. For example if they have too many of a certain species or too much of that blood line they might put the females on birth control or separate the males from the females during breeding cycles. It is not like they throw a boy and a girl in a cage and make them do it. They do it on their own time, when they want.
