Do Dogs Get cold in the snow?
I was wondering if small dogs get cold in the snow ?

- Of course they do! Even if they do have fur, that doesn't keep them really warm.
- yes very easly if he or she shivers the slightest bit brig the dog inside before it gets hypothermia!
- Of course they do. They also experiment pain, fear, lots of emotions we experiment, even if some heartless people say the oposite to justify their actions.
- Yes, especially toy breeds and ones with short coats. To help out, you can fit a dog with a sweater which while looks cutsie and like it's spoiled, can really help protect it. Small dogs that aren't bred for snowy conditions shouldn't really be out in the snow, as they're paws can get cracked from the exposure.
- Yes! Even the ones with thick fur or long hair!! If they start to shake that means they are cold.
- Some do, some don't. It depends on the breed. Some dogs are bred SPECIFICALLY for work in the cold, and have a double coat, keeping them super warm. Some dogs have a single coat, and need extra help to keep warm. And it depends on the cold... no dog is gonna deal well with anything below -20 for extended periods...
- Yes, they get cold, but can easily cope with temperatures that would kill a human in very little time.
- Of course they do! Fur helps protect them from the elements, but if they don't have proper shelter, they can freeze to death. Small dogs can freeze to death a lot quicker than larger dogs. I live in Minnesota and when it gets cold here, my dogs feet freeze in a matter of minutes and I have to go outside and pick them up and carry them inside. They aren't even able to be out long enough to do their business at times when it's -20 below or colder. http://www.nypost.com/seven/03032007/news/regionalnews/cur_lets_dog_freeze_to_death_regionalnews_heidi_singer.htm http://www.pet-abuse.com/cases/11136/
- Naturally. Some breeds can get too cold very quickly and others, like my chessie, practically have antifreeze in their veins! But small dogs with sparce coats could easily get too cold very quickly.
- Yes. http://www.canismajor.com/dog/winter2.html
