Can Breyer horses get wet?

I want to take pictures with my Breyer horses and I would like to know if they can get wet. Are there waters I can't put them in? Is a stream or creek ok? What about a pool?

  1. You're not going to want to soak them for long periods of time. If you accidently get a little water on them, it's fine, but dry is best. Stream and creek water should be OK. Again, small doses. No soaking. Pool water contains chlorine which may fade/bleach the paint. EDIT TO ADD: OK, well, scratch that! I just went on their site and learned that people will boil their horses in water in order to change their poses. If they can be boiled, they can survive the pool, stream, creek, gale force hurricanes... So go for it.
  2. No problem! I used to wash mine if they got really dusty - or if I got one that came from a collection where someone just had them sitting on shelves for years and years. It shouldn't hurt them one bit to get wet. Beware though... they do have an "air" hole in their nostril (or at least they used to) and you won't want water getting inside. If you do just put them nose down to "drain" them. I've also used rubbing alcohol to remove scuff marks on white horses (you may want to test for color fastness on colored horses, but if it doesn't bother the whites I don't think it would bother the others). To test them I'd check an area under the tail or something where it wouldn't really be noticeable.
