How much should I sell my akc registered boxer puppies for?

I bought my male for $650 & my female for $300. My female is currently pregnant & this will be my first litter. I live in Indiana & I want to get as much as I can for them, but I want it to be a fair price & I'm scared with the economy that I will be left with some puppies. Also any other tips on whelping would be nice, I've researched alot but still worried that something unexpected could occur.

  1. It doesnt matter what you paid for the parents.. you could have just as easily been ripped off on your dogs too. The only time purebred puppies really have value is if the parents have CH or working titles and have passed genetic health tests. If you were so worried abotu being "left with" puppies, you should not have bred your dog until you had a waiting list of buyers. Reputable breeders do not breed unless they are prepared to keep the pups. Sell the pups for the cost of the vet care, plus a lil extra to go towards the parents spay/neuter. Put a spay/neuter deposit on the pups.. around $50-100, and put in the contract that the owner will recieve their limited AKC paperwork, and their spay/neuter deposit upon proof of spay/neuter.
  2. If you sell them, don't sell to "just anybody." Make sure they are going to be responsible owners. Be prepared to raise these puppies and read up on being a responsible breeder. Get your dogs fixed and stop breeding, as there are too many dogs in shelters that need homes. Dogs are loving family pets, and shouldn't be sold for profit. I don't believe in breeding or selling dogs at all since most "sold" dogs end up with horrible lives, or in shelters and killed.
  3. if you will vaccinate and deworm them, then no more than $150, your dogs aren't champions so AKC registered means squat.
  4. I hope you realize, that for every puppy you sale, that's one dog in a shelter that could have had a home with the person you sold the dog to, that will end up dying now, all because you breed your dogs. And, if you don't know how much to sell your puppies for, you don't know how to get your dogs to stop "whelping," and you aren't even sure about what is going to happen, you DO NOT need to breed dogs. I mean, you don't need to breed them anyway, there are millions of dogs that need a home in shelters that don't get a home, because of dog breeders. I really hope you get your dogs fixed. . .
  5. Here is a site that I think will help you. http://www.nextdaypets.com/directory/dogs/sale/1100050/Default.aspx
  6. $350, I'd pay for that not too little, not too much
  7. You could sell them to some really stupid person for $1,000 or you could get them vaccinated, get youe dogs fixed, and sell them for $50. I would never buy a dog from you!
  8. If both parents are titled and OFA's hips, elbows and eyes and the whole pedigree the same then the pups could be worth $1,000 if not you will be lucky to get $100 and not get sued thru the Puppy Lemon Law. Good luck and get a good lawyer because chances are the pups will have a genetic disease you have not screened and certified for and the owners will sue you for big bucks..
  9. What does your breeding mentor suggest? Or the local boxer club? ** to the TDF - this is what someone who actually cares about the breed would have found out already. They would already a mentor and be a member of the local club - I'm assuming this person doesn't. The broad heads of brachycephalic breeds often make the birthing process difficult. Commonly, Caesarean sections are necessary, requiring the additional risks of anesthesia. I hope you've been saving your pennies .....
  10. "I bought my male for $650 & my female for $300. My female is currently pregnant & this will be my first litter." So you have pet quality dogs that you bred and you have NO clue what you are doing. "I want to get as much as I can for them, but I want it to be a fair price & I'm scared with the economy that I will be left with some puppies." Well I can tell you now they aren't going to be worth much. As for having left over pups, you should have thought about that BEFORE you bred your animals. REAL breeders have waiting lists and if they don't sell every pup? No big deal They are more than WILLING and ABLE to properly care for any remaining pups. AKC papers mean NOTHING without the parents having earned their CH titles. I see no mention of genetic clearances on them which would make any genetic health guarantee you could place on the pups worthless. $50-100 at the most because that is ALL they are worth. 110 if you have them microchipped
  11. $100--tops. AKC means *squat* when the parents haven't been proven to be anything other than pet-quality. LOTS of pet-quality Boxers out there. ****A *reputable* breeder would find *good* homes for the pups, and keep any and ALL pups that didn't find good homes for as long as was needed. A *reputable* breeder wouldn't have bred without showing and health-testing FIRST and a *reputable* breeder would only charge enough to break even and cover show costs, health tests, vet trips, etc--not "get as much as they can".
  12. im sorry but you should have researched this before you starting breeding your boxers i wouldnt price them for more than 200. please get your dogs spayed/neutered, people who don't know what they're doing shouldn't breed hollyy
  13. Many valid sensible points made by other users. But I need to ask some questions.. when you sell will you have a contract, stating that the puppies cannot be sold / re homed or passed onto a third party without your input and vetting the new homes/owners? I would also like to ask, will you take back any puppies if the owners can no longer keep them? Like you pointed out there is an economic recession, what if people bring the pups back to you for economic reasons?
  14. AKC Registered Boxer puppies as long as you crop the tales have them vaccinated with first shots and de-wormed and your looking at reasonably at least $500 per puppy. Vaccines should be given at 6,9,12,and 16 weeks. Start advertising when your pups are about 3 weeks or so have people come look and pick out there pup/put down a deposit. You should make sure mom is eating puppy food to help supplement her nutritionally, you will want to mix it with her current food if you haven't already. Puppies should start eating some moist kibble dog food at about 4 weeks...gradually less moist until they are eating dry dog food....then, at 6 weeks 1st vaccines and de-worming.....make sure you get paperwork from vet with stamp for new owners...ask vet about referral program so will give you a credit to your account for people you refer....make sure you sell the puppies to responsible people..at 8 weeks 7 to 8 weeks as long as they are eating solid foods and the vet hasn't told you otherwise they are ready for there new homes.....
  15. Unless your dogs are grand champions in the show ring and you're active in the dog shows in your area, you're selling what are considered 'pet quality' puppies which will not bring top dollar. The blood lines of your male & female mean everything. Even with AKC papers, it's still quality over anything else.
  16. After reading all the replys why don"t you just get your dog fixed. They are not breeding quality, you don't know diddly about breeding. you would be producing inferior pups ... get them neutered! Please don't be another backyard breeder contributing to the overpopulation of dogs.
  17. well maybe you should have bred your dog now you probably should have waited if they are not show quality then they are pet quality and should be sold for about 300.00 to 400.00 with spay and neuter contracts as they are only pet quality if you sold them with out papers for like 200.00 or less they probably will sell fast your female will be fine as long as she was not bred with a male who is too big she may need a c-section or your vet can deliver the puppies that is probably expensive if possiblee ask the breeder of one of the parents if they could assist you that would be really good thats my advice start collecting old towels, blankets, sheets, ect for whelping and you could buy a whelping box i think they sell them through jppet.com and kv vet.com one or the other or they both sell them and some whelping supplies and puppy supplies hope this helps
  18. First, you need to see what the puppies look like. Also, the price isn't as important as their welfare so be sure to sell only to people you can trust. Also, the sire and dam must look correct to sell at a higher price. If both parents are close to the standard set for them by the AKC then you can set almost any price you choose. However, it should be more of an average of the Sire and Dam's price. Yet, you have to add in your time and efforts when pricing the litter also. It takes a lot of work when breeding that many are unaware of. If your litter is big you may be able to reduce your prices also to ensure they all find homes at the right age. Also, if you live in a poor area then they may not bring as much. Post them on the web, and good luck.
  19. Some people are just ignorant! I think you could get about 500 to 700 for each pup if you get them worMed and vaccinated. Being a champion is good but does not mean if your not a champ your pups aren't good. Your just trying to make a few extra bucks and give someone a good dog. Akc may not mean "all that" but it proves they are purebred and I'm sure they are healthy so the pups are wellbred also!!! Don't listen to all the idiots and good luck with your pups. As for tips on whelping the akc website has pages with many tips. Good luck again and kiss your doggies for me!
