Okay, I may totally have an "open mouth insert foot" moment for this because honestly I dont know much about registering dogs other than I know my cocker is AKC registered but we have never shown him... I didnt think you could register "crossbreeds" aka DESIGNER DOGS. *barf* I saw this add on kijiji for "Mastidane" or "Daniff" puppies for $500 with CKC papers! uhhhh..is this even possible? I emailed this lady and was like yeah, they are cute puppies but how the heck can you charge 500 bucks for a mutt and say they are papered... Here is her response My dogs are not classified as a "mixed breed" or "designer breed". They are a crossbreed. All dogs derive from a mix of some kind that have been perfected over the years to obtain the breed that they are now. You cant register a mix breed, but you can register a cross breed. I have the pups CKC papers in hand, recieved them in the mail yesterday. I didnt have any problems with getting papers for them with my first litter either. I have refrences and proof of my papers for my other litters. I am advertising them with papers because I have papers. Goggle Mastidanes or sometimes they are referred to as Daniffs and see what you come up with. I have sold pups as far up as Canada and over to Illinois and down into Tennessee and there has not been one person that has been disatisfied with my pups or their papers. Thank you" is there a difference between a mutt/designer dog/hyrbid/ CROSSBREED I didnt think there was, I could be wrong. And there is nothing wrong with mutts, I have one and I love him more than anything, im just saying wtf is it with these people advertising "crossbreeds" with papers and for 500 bucks, more than some decent pure breeds? ***EDIT lol, I know that the lasy is a lieing greedy BYB, I know the differenece between a mutt and pure breed and I have no problems with mutts. I just thought the lovely dog community on YA would get a kick out of this ignorant lady trying to charge 500 freaking dollars for a mutt. Im not looking to buy another dog just looking at puppies on kijiji for fun and see how cute they are. I cant even look on there anymore all the BYB and freaking designer dogs make me want to barf! However, I didnt know there was canadian kennel clud which is reputable and a conKC which is horse crap. Thanks for letting me know =) I think I will try and register some stuffed animals on there and advertise them for 500 dollars...LOL

Not all dog registries are created equal. Some are not reputable. CKC (the Continental Kennel Club) is one of the worst. Those papers are worthless!! And the breeder is a scam artist. Oh, tell her that even though "purebreds" were devleoped from several different breeds, they now breed true and her mutts don't! That's what should make the difference between dogs eligible for registration or not.
They are all the same. Mutts. The CKC they are registered with is a bogus club some guy set up so he could charge more for his puppies.

Any dog with more than one breed in its lineage (talking recently here, sire, dam, grand sire, grand dam) is a mutt. Doesn't matter what the breeder tells you about how their dogs are different or special, they're mutts. And yes, you can register a MUTT/crossbreed/mixed breed/designer dog with the CKC. Being registered with ANY kennel club (even the AKC) does not garuantee quality, so it's just a selling point to the uninformed. ADD: Just wanted to add that there is no such thing as a hybrid dog. Unless of course they have mated their dog with a different species (and no, a wolfxdog is not a hybrid because wolves and dogs are the same species).
Any time you take a dog of one breed and a b*tch of another breed and let them create pups, they are mixed breed pups. Mutts. They should cost no more than the price of the shots they received (if any), or the adoption fee at the shelter many end up in. Mutts make great pets but they are still mutts Yes they can get papers from CKC but they are worthless.

Odd...even the ConKC classifies these dogs as "Mixed Breed" (not "crossbreed", or anything else). http://www.ckcfaqs.com/ The "CKC papers" this person is claiming to have were provided by the ConKC primarily as "proof of ownership". About the same as a microchip. There is also no mention of "Mastidanes"/"Daniffs" on their website. No, there is no difference. A mix is a crossbreed is mutt is a mongrel is a cur. They are synonyms. Mutts are fine...but getting "papers" on them from a crappy KC just to drive up price is slimy.
it's an intelligent question, and you're right to be skeptical. any mixed breed that is registered belongs to a scam registry. i could print more meaningful registration paperwork with my 6 year old drawing them in crayon and fingerpaint. the ONLY registry you should trust (if you live in the USA) AKC- American Kennel Club UKC- United Kennel Club CKC- Canadian Kennel Club --- BEWARE- there is ANOTHER CKC- Continental Kennel Club- it's made to look like the Canadian one to confuse people- the Continental KC is a SCAM. a mutt is a mutt is a mutt. sure, they make great pets, but don't buy one from a BYB- just get it at the pound.... in re your question: wtf is it with these people advertising "crossbreeds" with papers and for 500 bucks, more than some decent pure breeds?THEY'RE GREEDY AND DON'T CARE ABOUT DOGS. blah! Dogs are dogs, and the words "purebred" "crossbreed" "mutt" whatever mean nothing. I don't see how classifying dogs as purebreeds and mutts and having them registered and stuff is any different from calling minorities nasty names, and exterminating Jews. It's disgusting, and I have always refused to deal with people that want to talk about how great their dogs are because they have papers and all that. This woman sounds like she's full of shit, and is just trying to convince you that her dogs are somehow better than a homeless one that you could adopt so that she can get your money.
mutt, mixed breed, crossbreed, designer dog, etc are all the same. "Hybrid" is not a proper term.. a hybrid animal is the result of breeding 2 different species. All breeds of dog are the same specie. CKC is a crappy scam registry that will register anything. They exist only to put "papers" on dogs that are not eligible for registration thru any reputable registry. People somehow think that "papers" mean quality.. so this registry will put "papers" on anything. People have registered in-animate objects just to proove how easy it is to get papers! Also no, not all breeds are the result of mixing. Many old breeds were established from the domestic dog as it was known. The dogs were bred for particular traits for working, and separate breeds were a result. Think about it, you have to establish different breeds first before you can mix it! Purebreds were established by selecting dogs for useable traits.. you dont create a breed by just simply slapping 2 breeds together and giving the offspring a label. It takes generations of selective breeding.. and there also has to be a purpose and a goal... what use does a dane/mastiff mix serve?
The CKC (continental kennel club, not the canadian kennel club) is a scam registry, you could litterally register your toaster with them TERMS: MUTT: all of the following are mutts, mutts are simply dogs who have several different breeds in them bred by 'accident' by irresponsible owners. Or on purpose by moronic people who call themselves 'breeders' to get money. As for CROSS BREEDS they are just mutts, a bunch of different breeds (or two in this case) mixed together DESIGNER DOG are just mutts too, generally teeny tiny ones frequently ending in "poo" and labeled with the false term of 'hypoallergenic" HYBRID is just a mutt to, the term is used by people who live in the fantasy world that when you mix two different breeds together you come out with a magical super dog that has no health problems. As for her claim that all breeds where created by mixing, fine true enough. But they where created for a reason, a real reason not just hey I have a Mastiff and a Great Dane I bet they would make adorable and expensive puppies! They are both wonderful breeds on their own, people can just choose one no need to be mixing them together
Ok this is just my opinion so please no attacks. First CKC is a registry, but not a quality one. It's pretty much there to sound good. As far as crossbreeds... She is right that breeds now started as mixes, however they can now breed on their own to a standard. I have known people who breed great quality dogs that are a mix, because they are hoping to perfect the mix and create a new recognized breed. Please note that most people who breed these mixes are low quality mills and bybs. But some are really trying to make a new breed and believe in what they're doing. When doing this I think they should follow the same guidelines I give for a responsable breeder. They parents should be pure, papered, gatten their championship or workingtitle, be genetically tested. These pups can not be registared with a quality registry, and should be spayed and neutered unless being kept by the person trying to get a new breed to be breed with another evenly crossed, pup from another line. Pups can be a little more expensive since they are quality just not pure. Most quality dogs are 1000 plus. I would not suggest that price but to me 300-500 doesn't seem unreasonable since they still come from quality parents and should be a sound dog. I believe this is how breeds are made, and therefore support it. But again only when done responsably, pet shops and mills will are not trying to create a sound breed they are trying to scam and make money. Again this is just my opinion. Either way I think she is not responsable since she is using a scam registry and I doubt her dogs have been genetically tested, and I doubt pups are altered.
CKC (Continental Kennel Club) will register just about anything and they don't care if they are pure bred or not.
