What is the name of this horse?

I need the name of a race horse that broke his leg. I was young when it happened. It was in the late 80's or early 90's. I remember it was all over the news. I think there was a picture of it on the cover of magazines. I can't find any info on it.

1. It may have been Go For Wand -- 1990 Breeders' Cup Distaff....it was a hideous breakdown.

Could it be Charismatic, with jockey Chris Antley holding the horse's leg up after the horse broke down in the 1999 Belmont stakes? http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/05/sports/othersports/05vecsey.html As others have said, it might be Go For Wand, but it couldn't have been Swale. Swale didn't break down-- he died of a heart attack after a workout, a week after he won the Belmont Stakes.
5. There have been so many.... During that time Timely Writer and Go For Wand come immediately to mind. When Timely Writer broke down and fell in the turn of the 1982 Jockey Club Gold Cup, he took 2 other horses out with him and 1 of them died. Three horses died during 1990 Breeder's Cup races, including Go For Wand, who was the headliner. They showed her breakdown over and over again on national TV. You can pull it up on utube if you have the stomach to watch it. Swale didn't break down. He died of a heart attack during his morning bath just days after winning the Belmont.
