My cat stole my other cats babies...lol help? :)?
One of my cats just had babies about 3 or so weeks ago. My other cat is pregnant and we're expecting the babies any day now. Last night, I went to check on the kittens and I noticed that the one feeding them wasn't their mom. My pregnant cat has been with the kittens all night feeding them and looking after them. I was wondering, why is she doing that? And should I try to separate them so their mom can get to them easier? Their mom is still feeding them and stuff, but the pregnant one has definitely like, kidnapped the babies. lol And please don't preach to me about having a pregnant cat. My cats are still pretty young, and they're getting fixed VERY soon. We're keeping some of the kittens, and the rest already have "homes", we're just waiting for them to get old enough for people to come get them. We're not sending them to shelters or anything, so please don't preach about that to me. I've had cats all my life and I've never seen anything like this before, so I was just curious. (:

- Try to keep the kittens with thier original mother. Make up a cage or a pen. By the way there's nothing wrong with having multiple cats if you like them and take good care of them. Have fun!
- Given sufficient resources (i.e. good hunting or plenty of food provided) cats will form social groupings similar to prides of lions. They will hunt cooperatively, and the females will raise their young together. Your pregnant kitty did not *steal* the other's babies, as evidenced by their momma's continued involvment. Rather, she is just helping the other cat raise this litter. As it gets closer to time for her to deliver, it might be a good idea to separate her from these kittens, because they are so much older than hers, they could be rough on the newborns. But once the younger ones get a little older and more mobile, the litters can go back together.
- It is normal behavior for them to "share" kittens. Likely once the 2nd cat has her kittens you will see the first caring for them also. As long as they are not fighting over the kittens and all of the kittens are being cared for there is no need to intervene.
