What are some good websites, books, or something for researching breeds of dogs?
I'm interested in a couple of different breeds of dogs. Mainly the newfoundland and Irish wolfhound for me and companion type of dog for my mother. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

- Go to Dogwise.com
- AKC.org, which will have links to the parent breed clubs. Also, most Breed Rescue groups will have information on the pros and cons of the breeds, because rescue groups want the right breeds to go to the right homes (so they don't have to be rescued again) - you can Google for breed rescues, there are tons of them. (And while you're looking at the rescue websites, opt to adopt!!)
- You haven't used google.com? How about your library? They have SHELVES of dog books in the animal section. There are also breed bulletin board groups on Yahoogroups for the different types.........use the internet, it's your greatest resource.
- www.akc.org www.qualitydogs.com DON'T listen to anything by nextdaypets or any of he sites frequented by disreputable, irresponsible breeders.
- For accurate information, go to the AKC website http://www.akc.org/breeds/index.cfm?nav_area=breeds Check the breed pages and then go to the national club Websites. This is also an excellent place to find a responsible breeder.
- try petfinder.com, under the learn tab there is a section on dog breeds, or try googling dogs 101.
- http://www.doggies.com/ Edit: Just noticed that Doggies lists designer mutts in their breeds list. I am not pleased. Go with AKC: http://www.akc.org/breeds/index.cfm?nav_area=breeds# Darksong~
- http://www.justdogbreeds.com/ This site shows over 150 different dog breeds, and lists their general personalities and physical traits.
- I kinda like this website www.wikipedia.com you'll have to types in "list of dog breed" in the search area, then they are in order or maybe these www.dogluvers.com or www.dogster.com there is also this book at amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/Encyclopedia-Breeds-Caroline-Coile-Ph-D/dp/0764157000 or you can get it at petsmart they also have books by breed at petsmart good luck I personally don't know anything about those dogs, but hope it helps
- If you're a reader, go to your local library or book store and just immerse yourself in dog books, those places are sure to have tons. And yes, like the posts before this, akc.org is great, and if you're looking to adopt, try petfinder.com, and just doing your general research on google will get you some great results.
- look up Irish wolfhound
- i use: http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/ i like it because it breaks it down for you and there was even a little survey to tell what kind of dog will best fit your preferences... http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/search.htm i also like that it gives you more tips about raising puppies etc
- Hi, Choosing a purebred is the best way to know what a dog's looks and personality might be like, although it's never a guarantee. Here are the dog breeds: http://dogtime.com/dog-breeds.html
