Pee like a race horse when on period?

I have asked this question to my doctor. (I have county health insurance and it seems that these doctors either do not know the answer, do not care to give the answer or do not want to take the time to tell me what is possibly happening inside of my body). I asked this question before, with no clear answers yet. I want a very detailed description of what could be happening inside my body. I am not pregnant. I have no children. If you are a nurse or if you are a student nurse and have taken micro-biology, can you please help me out here. I need details. I'm 33. For the past 4-5 years, I have had to go pee like crazy (about once every hour) while on my period. I do not have this problem when I am not on my period. I do not have to drink water to pee like this during this time of the month. I have been told that I "retain water". Okay. What does this mean? Paint me a picture. Why do I pee so much only during my period? It is crazy having to go to the bathroom every hour. If I was working, my boss would wonder why I'm not getting any work done one week out of the entire month. My boss would wonder why I'm always in the bathroom. I do not need to drink anything. When I am on my period, I just pee. All the time. The day that I'm done with my cycle-it's all over. My body is back to normal! So, what is going on? Are all of these little cells in my body just dormant for three weeks out of a month and all of a sudden-bam! These cells just fill up with water and go to my bladder and then dump water and then I need to go pee? Or do these cells go to the uterus? I need a very detailed description of what is happening. Can my weight be a factor in this? What about my age? I am 5 foot 1 and 180 pounds. When I was in my 20's, it was not like this! Is this a common event that happens in women in their 30's? Is this a common event that happens in all women when they are on their period? I am not a diabetic. Is there anything that I can take to stop this urination? Is there something that I can take besides the pill? I'm sure that the pill will help since that is meant to stop the cycles (such as 4 cycles a year instead of 12). What about Deterol LA? Would this help if I took it only during my period? Please help me! Thank you Mel, I heard that it IS very "normal". What I want to know is what is happening. This is why I asked for a nurse to answer the question. I want to to details-even if it is "normal", I still want to know why this is happening.

  1. Sorry I'm not a doctor, nurse or anything of that kind. But, I suffer from the same thing. When I am on my period i have to pee lots, even sometimes twice an hour. I don't think it has to do with weight, age, or being on/off the pill. I'm 26, 5'5, weigh about 143, and been on the pill for 2 years (I peed lots even before i started the pill). My doctor said that there is nothing wrong with me and that it is not uncommon for that to happen to women when they are on their cycle. Hopefully, this helps you somewhat.
  2. I tend to have to go potty a lot more the week before the period when I'm building up. That is a lot going on inside the pelvic cavity, and the buildup of the uterus crowds out some of the urine containment capacity. Stsrt taking a supplement called "evening primrose oil" in gelcaps with every meal... really helps do away with the swelling and discomfort. There are some other things that will also help, for example, if you are craving carbs and sweets, you need to also be taking chromium picolinate at least once a day. You need to be on a really gool cal/mag/zinc supplement and lots of vitamin D. Make sure your A, D, & E supplements don't have any soybean oil in them because it blocks your ability to uptake the nutrition you are taking in. Stay away from soy in all forms, not only for the above reason, but because it also jacks with your metabolism and all your hormones. You need to stay away from caffeine and carbonated drinks. Drink plenty of water. I'm 50 and it takes a little more doing to feel normal during the buildup. The LAST thing you need to do is allow some idiot doctor to jack your hormones around in the name of temporary comfort. Find a good holistic health practitioner so you can get on the right supplements. Once you find out what it is you need, you can get about the same stuff at www.swansonvitamins.com pretty cheap.
