Where are some places I can find stray cats and dogs?

I am in the process of starting an animal shelter but I can't find any stray cats or dogs! Where should I look? (besides Mexico!!)

  1. aw hahal starting an animal shelter? how old are you?
  2. If you are starting an animal shelter make sure you have the licence and funds to keep it running and look after all the animals you rescue. Also make sure you have the time and energy to look after these animals. Maybe you should do a little more research before starting an animal shelter. Or go down to a local animal shelter and help out there for a bit first to get some experience in how to deal with the dogs and cats and also how and where they rescue the animals from.
  3. Well usually you have the animals first before you start the shelter. And finding strays aren't the ideal way to go, they may need medical treatment or be feral and dangerous.
  4. advertise in some vets that you are an opening shelter because lots of people will call their vet if thhey find one and make sure your local towns and such are aware that your opening so they can contact you if they find some, you could also see if there are any shelters which are running out of kennels ect. and would be willing to let you take in some of the animals and rehome, once you have a few animals you will be able to get more publicity so more people will come, so make sure you don't overload your sanctuary at the beginning, you can also try putting out a small bowl of food and milk each day and night (though make sure you change it frequently or you may attract rats!) and you may atrract some hungry strays, though make sure that you check it is astray not a runnaway of a loving owner before you put it in he sanctuary!!!
  5. Seeing as you are 10 years old, from a previous post you left, this won't work out for you until you are 18 or older. You need proper licenses and permits that they will not give a child. In the meantime, you can volunteer at a local animal shelter but a parent would have to be present at all times since you are under 18.
  6. here is a link about STRAY pets http://www.gomestic.com/Pets/Most-Stray-Pets-Really-Arent.475325 stray pets are pets with owners.. as a shelter it is your job to find their OLD owners so taking dogs from Mexico isnt the right thing to do.. perhaps you are looking for abandoned or unwanted pets... anyhow read that link.. most shelters have people bring the pets to them.. they dont go looking for the pets.. nor do they need to
  7. well, i'm not sure that you know what you're doing you need a vet at the premise at all times - when stray animal's come in they need to be treated and need a check up, to check for heart worms and flea's etc. and you of course need a legal license and you must own a rented or owned building with a large enough cage for cat's , dog's , and other animal's you need food for them, food cartons, bedding, you need money of course to keep the building open, and you need leash's ,collar's and toy's you need so much more, you need voultears working their, you need adoption paper's and you need adoption fee's for all the animal's. and if you're ever caught not following the law, and just using you're house as a shelter' and not getting them medical care you'll be fined ALOT OF MONEY. and you should look in the lower part's of town and then transport them to the vet, their are alot of stray animals in the wood's,
