Cross Breeds

why pekingese always put his tongue out?

I have a 4 months puppy, he's cross breed of pekinese and maltese. I wonder why he always put his tongue out... anybody know about it?

  1. Couple of possible reasons. Either his tongue is too long or his teeth on the bottom are missing or too small to hold his tongue in. This shouldn't be a huge concern my pug's tongue sticks out all the time.
  2. If he has more of the pekingnese structure, it could be because of the sinus placement. Short nosed breeds usually have a more difficult problem with breathing, and panting may be more comfortable for him.
  3. My dog has an extreme overbite. His tongue and upper jaw are too large for his bottom jaw. So his tongue sticks out. This may be why your dog is doing that, or the fact that Pekingeses have smooshed faces and malteses don't... That may have something to do with it. I wouldn't be concerned either way though. My dog is happily four years old now, and it hasn't really affected him at all.
