Question about shih tzu puppies?
I have a 4 month old shih tzu puppy (a girl) and she currently weighs about 3.5 pounds. I was wondering at what age this breed of dog usually reaches full maturity. Thanks :)

- About 9-10 months. Some female shih-tzu's mature sooner. I am a veterinarian technician and we see them daily. They are faaaaaaaabulous. Great choice!!!!!!!
- With smaller dogs like shih tzu's, most reach maturity at the 1 year mark. That is when dogs are considered adults. Only larger dogs may take a little longer to reach maturity.
- The standard is to double the weight at 4mo for adult weight so you are looking at 7-8lb grown. Most small dogs as far as growing reached their size by 1yr but still have more maturity issues like coat & filling out.
- I have a shih tzu poodle mix and i was told by my vet to wait until her second time in heat before i set her to breed. They usually become at full maturity at around 9 months but it also varies. but if ur planning on getting her mated I would suggest u wait for the second round of heat.
- According to everything I have read, small breeds like the Shih Tzu are considered "full grown" or "adult size" they say by about 9-10 months. I do believe they can do a little growing yet up to about a year, but it usually isn't by much.
